What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I built a shorter scale kit for my cousin's son when he was getting into bass guitar. I set it up, and it played well. Good weight, great feel

Now, my mom's Jazz Bass from the 70s: huge neck, heavy as a lead tank, sounds great!
That's what a lot of reviews were commenting; how light. 8.75 pounds!!! It'll be here tomorrow, just checked the tracking.

Well, the Butter Roll vibe made it. First thing I did was tear it open. Look below, but ignore the broken jack (oops). Looks like a LM13700 phaser. Sounds good, but has some whining in the background. Probably bad power supply filtering or my bad power in this old house.
Ohh. Never seen a CN13600 before.

Well this came today.

Its a rob rob princeton aa1164 with the reverb abd tremolo deleted eyelet board.

So from time to time ill stumble on a broken super champ x2 on CL or Marketplace and if tbe price is right ill pick em up. Remove the dsp board, toss it in the oven, put it back together voila they work again. So far im 3 for 4 on that working. Well didnt work this time. Theres a problem in the power supply for the dsp board, and well i dont care enough to hunt it down especially since i told myself if it happened i would do this.

Turn the super champ x2 into a princeton using thr cab, chassis, transformers. I havent built an aml yet though ive worked on a lot so im guessing this is going to be a journey. Sucks too cause someone replaced the transformers in this amp, but they are “good”. Goal here is to see how cheaply i can make a hand wired tube amp. Current investment 13$.

40$ for amp (had celestion vintage 10, which j pulled and sold for 60). Put a 10” fender special design in i had laying around i think i paid 10$ for. 22$ for the board. So ive got the board, 2 6v6, 1 ax7, power, output xformers, cab and chassis so far. Ill document this and make a thread when the amp is done. Should be fun.

When you clip the leads on the bottom of the board, after soldering, be sure to inspect it for sharp points and file them flat if there are any, especially any close to where the machine screws hold the board down. They can penetrate the bottom insulation and ground.

Had this happen on the VERY FIRST amp I built. The 6v6 cathode was grounded and *totally smoked* the 300 ohm 5w resistor. Unfortunately for me I had to unsolder EVERY EFFING WIRE to remove the board to figure out what had happened. New resistor, and a new insulation board and I was in business.

I have switched to G10 epoxy laminate board which is tough as a nail !!!

Ok guys this is next level geek. I got a customizable mechanical keyboard. I did not know these were a thing until recently. I must say I really love it. The clicking sound is so pleasant. I know, weird thing to get excited about. I was lucky enough to convince my boss that I needed one of these to “enhance my productivity” so I didn’t have to pay for it, which I guess makes it even more exciting!

There are other color schemes. I liked the retro look of this one. It’s a Keychron in case you’re wondering.

Edit: oh the case is aluminum which gives it a nice heft. The switches are “tactile” which are supposed to give you tactile feedback. I’m not sure I get that but I also haven’t tried other kinds.

I have only ever had one computer keyboard- a 1985 IBM model M. My college roommates hated me for it because of the clicking. I don't plan to ever stop using it

I think Will even posted a pic of his keyboard somewhere on the forum?

Personally, I'm not much of a steampunker but I do like my old Underwood typewriter (still works, though I need a new ribbon for it);
so I would love to have one of the custom keyboards in the style of my Underwood. I've seen custom ones built by avid steampunkers, and I think the look became popular enough there may be commercial versions now...

Yes, there are indeed.

And many more besides.

Some have built-in stands for iPads, some have bluetooth, but I'll tell you what they don't have...

A cheap sticker-price.

That looks sweet! I also got my first mechanical keyboard a couple weeks ago:

It's a Monsgeek M5W with Akko Penguin silent tactile switches and Ghost Judges' Apollo keycaps. I do a lot of writing at work, and this has made it so much more enjoyable.

So my hands were NOT made for Bass guitar. Great for laying brick, and I've done THOUSANDS of those.

However, I have to use my pinky finger just to stretch TWO frets. I was resigned to just using my bass guitars as decorations and torture devices until I saw they make SMALLER bass guitars for reach deficit individuals such as myself !

AND and and and, it's going to be here Saturday!!!

I was getting ready to click on Place Order at Sweetwater when my screen redisplayed and it was OUT OF STOCK. Someone beat me to the punch by a second, lol. But, no sour grapes here, 'cuz Sweetwater always takes at least 6 days to get to me.

Looks sick! I've got one too,

That is an ancient photo from when I was still an undergrad, my desk setup looks nothing like that anymore, but I still have the keyboard! It's an Ortholinear Keyboards Neutrino (from back when they still made that model), totally hand-wired point-to-point (never doing that again, Jesus Christ). Here's the whole build log.
