What's your current headache?

Thank you. NIH "should" be safe but plans call for reducing the federal workforce by 1,000,000 which is just south of 50% of the entire force. The only thing I can think of keeping them from doing that is putting that many people on employment outright is not a good look.
So your new boss will be RFK?

Edit: didn’t see Stickman’s response before I added this.

Wonder what that's gonna look like under Director Robert F Kennedy Jr.

Er, no, he's gonna be above the director.

Top priorities include "getting America off seed oils". Oh, and vaccines. Boy, I'm glad he's gonna be there to ensure the return of whooping cough and measles.

It's not like this kind of approach to science has caused problems in the past.

Toodle doo. Pop! Chicken's done. Our brains are cooked, cooked, cooked
It will be anybody's guess if Dr. Bertagnoli. Francis Collins' replacement, gets the can. As for her new boss, who knows?

Its gallows humor, which benefits from repition. Much like hitting ones head against a wall. First time doesn't get ya bloody enough.

In seriousness... @Pauleo1214 ...I'm gonna keep a good thought in my heart for ya dude.

I've made peace with the fact that my beliefs tend to be somewhat in line with that of a "Social Anarchist". Which is like...uh...probably less than 1% of the population or so. At least that's what it seems like. I wasn't gonna be happy either way, but it's a good reminder of how lonely it feels to be a leftist in America.

Yup. Reminds you that you're alive.

Look you, take your science and logic and get outta here! 🤦 I don’t even want to think about Musk canceling social security for everyone.

Actually Trump promised to make SSA payments tax free. There are articles...... This was first one that popped up on the search. For me this means I'll be able to withdraw about 3 times more from my 401k per year tax free.

It's a nice promise. He also said that he would end the Israel Palestine conflict. He's good at promising things to people when he wants things out of them, like votes. Like that beautiful replacement for the ACA he promised back on 2016.

Turned out they didn't have a replacement and just tried to go ahead and repeal the whole thing. Thankfully they couldn't even get close to support for that.

Or perhaps the guarantees that he gave the folks that took his Trump University courses that they were getting inside information that would enable them to earn immense wealth in the real estate market. Generally, this was not the case.

Politicians, as a rule, are untrustworthy. Trump has the distinction of being such a fabulist when he lies that, paradoxically, folks tend to trust him more. Can't say I understand it. Horseshoe liar theory, maybe. Politicians that have shame tend to hedge thier promises. Trump doesn't, fails to deliver, and then moves the goalposts to take credit for things other people did. Often while stiffing them on the bill.

I like to explain my political beliefs to people as being in the other middle.
Not "moderate" and noon like so many(few¿), but more of a conservative anarchist or socialist libertarian and 6 o'clock on the dial.
Deleted the rest of my post as this isn't the place but just know, I feel you. No campaign rallys for me to go and chant "Make America's government participate and invest in the private sector to spurr innovation of green energies and create meaningful domestic competition before divesting once the market has been set for said technologies and they are accessible to all!"
It just doesn't have a ring to it I guess.

Yeah, I'm in the center of the bell shaped curve, registered independent in the 90's after being a democrat since I registered in 1973. Vote issues, not party. Musk is a registered Democrat that describes himself in the center as well.

Trump was a registered democrat his entire life, and started to run for president as such. The party *denied* his request so he re-registered GOP and won. I read every article at the time 9 years ago. This information seems to have been bleached out of existence on the web.

Since I vote issues, it requires keeping myself well informed and reading BOTH sides, and then watching who votes for what.

Yeah I emailed a lawyer today but I may have to find a few more because apparently litigating NatGrid is not something any lawyer will do, big company with deep pockets and all... This has been completely insane. The display of incompetence at every turn is staggering. My hunch is that they did not want to admit their mistake and/or they have no process to correct this type of error but nobody would tell me that and instead they just let the problem rot until they had to do something drastic. These companies are all monopolies so they couldn't care less about good-- no, decent, minimal, barely acceptable-- service. I had a day. And on this day!
I feel your pain, I’ve had similar with British Gas, removing a meter and then keep asking me for readings. Resolve that and a few days later a letter appears “for thr owner” saying “we supply your electricity and gas” - both of which havd been removed
but it's a good reminder of how lonely it feels to be a leftist in America.
Move to U.K. or Europe! I mean we have our own issues too, but different!

I have definitely been considering moving back to Europe, but not just because of the political environment in the US (Europe can be bad too, especially Italy right now), also to be close to family again now that the kids are growing up and don’t speak Italian…

When Trump got elected the first time, Germany had a whole campaign of "are you a scientist or engineer in a country with an anti-science leader? Come to Germany!" My wife said if they do it again I should start looking more seriously. We've also considered some of the Nordic countries, seems like they're generally doing alright.
