What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I had been eyeing the Mess for a while and finally talked myself into pulling the trigger, glad to hear you're enjoying it so far.

Next up, new snare. I only got to try it out for a sec and it's not remotely tuned up. The lugs are just above finger tight, but what a difference to my old pearl steel shell snare that is super warped and sounds horrible. New snare is a Yamaha stage custom birch in a natural finish

Excellent, the Stage Customs are one of the best bang-for-your-buck drums out there in my opinion, glad to hear you like it.

Oooh.. Shiny
Got my Pi Stomp V3. Not much work needs to be done to it to make it work, but I am going to trace the PCB first. Hoping I can read the SMD part markings without too much issue.

Some thought obviously went into the packaging for this NotaHXStomp.
Ooooh. Shiny!

I had a dumb idea that requires a custom-sized enclosure, so I spun something up and sent the same design to two different companies (one in China, one in the US) to see how they look. Ordered on the same day, arrived the same day.

Did you special the radius of the fold? If so, one is out of spec. It depends a lot where you ordered in China and in the US so I won't venture into what comes from where but the left one looks great really.

The visible seam on the top and holes in the corners are the Chinese unit?
Nope, actually that one is the US unit, it came from SendCutSend. It doesn't really look bad, but it definitely looks more prototype-ish.

I did not specify the radius, I told them to use whatever default radius they had for the thickness of the material.

The one on the left came from JLC in China and was about $40 with shipping and import duties, the one on the right came from SendCutSend in the US and cost about $70. If the project ends up happening, I definitely know who I'm going with.

This is good info. I had planned to send some stuff to sendcutsend but sounds like I won't bother if I ever get around to finishing that design

Yeah I've used them before for amp chassis and they're fine for stuff like one-offs, and they're not insanely expensive, but they're not cheap.
Hm. I think I will get a quote from JLC for my next chassis then. Since I am in Europe and pay no tariffs (rubbing it innnn), if I can get what I need drilled around 50€ I will be happy.

I like your enclosure though! Slopped always made more sense to me. I don’t know why it’s not standard.

Yeah I'm going to look at them next time I do an amp chassis as well. I pulled up my JLC order to check the breakdown, I could have saved a bit if I went with slow shipping, but I'm not willing to do that.
