What's your current headache?

Prepping the snow thrower for winter yesterday, changed oil, dumped the old gas (the color of urine…), and drained the carb. I must've done something wrong or knocked something out of alignment, because it was revving out of control. Took quite a while to get it started, but even it did, something was wrong. Thankfully I went for the spark cut switch when I realized, but might've cut its ring life short…

I know just enough about small engines to not know how to set its governor, which I realized this morning must be the culprit. Don't know if it's related/connected to the choke adjustment, but it feels funny. it's definitely the cheapest feeling thing on an otherwise solid Toro machine.
Setting the governor on a small engine isn't hard, you just have to spend a minute with it and work it out. But they really never need adjusting unless you disassemble the throttle linkage and it's an old machine you don't have a history on and you're trying to troubleshoot etc

It's possible it was revving because of an issue with the carb. They are cheap enough to just install a new one from amazon and be done with it

When you put it away put some of that Sta-bil fuel stabilizer in it so it doesn't get all weird later on

That's the thing, i swear the fuel had properly mixed sta-bil in it, but apparently not if it came out looking like lemon lime Gatorade. i really want to say it's E0, too, but maybe those couple years ago I couldn't (was too lazy to) find an E0 station. My can doesn't get anything else these days, though since a station less than a mile away has it.

My money is on what @jwin615 mentioned about the carb needle getting stuck because of the aforementioned pee gas. I'll get some carb cleaner and see what happens. Worst case I take it to the place I bought it (excellent rep) and pay them to give it a once-over. Time is the kicker anymore. Should be a Kohler engine. The reason I went to that dealer is they don't sell the big box Toro stuff with cheapo engines.

This reminds me I should probably do the same. We had our first snow of the season yesterday, and while it wasn't enough to need the blower it makes me dread what's coming.

I've had to recharge my electric drill 3 times so far trying to drill the preamp tube socket holes this chassis. I think the step drill bit is causing it to overheat. still need to enlarge holes one size larger and do the power tubes.

Ever try this stuff?

A knockout punch is worth it if you're in the market.

My printer needs a cyan cartridge. The other two colors are about to run out too. the carts are $140 a pop, plus I'm really really really disinterested in giving money to HP. Does anybody have experience with generic toner cartridges in an HP laser printer?

How old is the printer? My 2013 printer is still chugging along great with generic brand cartridges. My wife's printer is a newer HP we bought in 2022 I think, and it does not do well with generic cartridges. It has the chip thing to authenticate them and will freak out if the chip isn't there, so you either buy generic cartridges that have figured out how to copy the chip or you manually remove the chip and move it to the new cartridge. And after all that hassle, the print quality on the two brands of generic toner we've used has been less than great.

Yeah it's from 2021. I think I'm hosed

I got nothing helpful for you, but whenever I see people dealing with this, It reminds me why I gave up printing in color and got a monochrome laser printer.

Today.. a day of hearing protector, masks and glasses.. I'll start making the mould and jacks for the guitar. First jigsaw cut will be the fun one, after that it's all sanding and getting it to a good template. The next 4 are easy with a router and vaccum.. then two more but 10-15mm smaller for making plate chassis.
Once done I'll actually be in a position to start doing some guitar work.

We have a little HP mono laser. The wife has an inkjet printer with separate colour ink reserves, so uses special sublimation ink and altered colour palette calibration for it too. Anything beyond that - send it off to get printed.

1) Instrument in my lab broke down for the third time in its one (1) year of life (from the same issue every time) and was fixed two weeks ago - is now misbehaving again in a different but possibly related way, just when interest in using it is starting to surge. Please stop it and just work properly, thank you. At least it's still under warranty.

2) For absolute fuck's sake, I have had it with fucking AI, when are we going to accept that it is a disgusting affront to the existence of human life that devours crucial, precious resources for absolutely no benefit to society and only outputs worthless garbage and corrupts our very perception of reality for the sadistic merriment of a handful of vapid evil losers. First it was you couldn't get a graphics card to save your life during COVID because delusional people trying to mine crypto were scalping them, now the price of RAM has exploded because of delusional people trying to ballistically expand AI datacenters or whatever, naturally during which time I am desperately attempting to build not one but several PCs for the workspaces I manage, and IT policy headaches and procurement delays mean that now I am out an extra $700 for no good reason. Christ, it's enough already, please can we get a break.

Couldn't have said it better mice elf.

Those who praise the so-called 5IR conveniently forget that every industrial revolution puts people on the ground out of work. Humankind is now supposed to adapt its thinking to comply with the imaginary demands of AI, which TMM puts the cart before the horse; should be the other way around. At this point one can't use a word processor without 'suggestions' for improvement that were clearly drafted by illiterates and morons. Brave new world, indeed.
