New Pedal Releases

Just testing the water here, am I the only one that felt a tad... mislead.... by the CB marketing for the Big Time. Its says "hybrid analog and digital delay" - I was genuinely expected BBD devices. Its a 100% digital delay unless I misunderstood. The "only" analog stuff is the preamp and limiter. This feels a tad disingenuous. Granted, I wasnt a buyer, but its put me off regardless.

I’ll page @dunkindonuts to clear it up, if he has time.

I just assume most of these boutique brands that make all these dual footswitch 125b pedals that have too many knobs and bad sounds are simply selling snake oil

Tbh I got an accurate impression of that part pretty quickly. It does feel somewhat misleading to be worded like that though, to be fair, if you put a buffer in front of a digital delay isn't it technically "hybrid analog and digital delay"? Granted this thing does feel more analog than most digital delays, and I'm not sure that should be worded better. I hate most marketing in any case.

The part I'm confused about is the "We worked on this for years before we even knew if it was possible to do!". Which part, the analog preamp and limiter or the digital delay part? I must be missing something and I'm sure it was much more technically complex than I understand, but that felt weird. Like I understand all the features they crammed into it must make it more difficult to get working without issues... but it just doesn't feel like the concept itself is too insane to me? Was the actual digital delay they did some obscure way to do it that is much more difficult than just slapping some PT2399's in it?

I'm thinking the same... the manual shows the same two internal trimpots. Probably similar to the Hello Kitty / Hammertone Fuzz rebrand.

I didn't know about the anniversary, I was wondering (and still am, honestly) why Godzilla?
Because they did some Made In Japan special run Godzilla themed guitars

Today I plugged my microphonic Jon Spencer guitar into my amp and cranked the preamp tubes and it was pure bliss. Don't need no stinkin' pedals sometimes, especially those fiddly Chase Bliss units.

Also I saw Henry Rollins a couple of years ago on his spoken word tour. It was cool but it didn't compare to when I saw him on the Liar tour back in the 90s. I wish he went back to music.

Fender Japan did a whole big collab with Toho Godzilla for the 50th anniversary a few months ago. This is just the only part of the collab that’s now being released in the US as well.

Aside from the 75th anniversary, there’s some other big hype around Godzilla rn.
  • 10th anniversary of Shin Godzilla (with anniversary rereleases in theaters and deluxe 4k sets because of that), which is widely regarded as one of the best Godzilla movies (though I personally didn’t love it)
  • Godzilla -1 came out in the US in 2024, and only recently finally got a US physical release and was put on US streaming services. It’s not only probably the single best Godzilla film, but genuinely one of the best films of the 21st century IMO.
  • Godzilla -0, the sequel to Godzilla -1 is slated to come out later this year, and the first teaser trailer for it came out just a few weeks ago
  • Season 2 of Monarch, which is part of the US Monsterverse series (Godzilla (2014); Kong: Skull Island; Godzilla x Kong; etc), just concluded on Apple TV last week. While the Monsterverse/Hollywood movies aren’t as good as any of the Toho/Japan stuff, Monarch is legitimately a great show with a killer cast.

I'm a fan of Monarch but the second season wasn't biased right IMO.

I enjoyed s2 but did feel like there were a few issues:

• Too much focus on May/Corah and Kentaro, who I feel are the two least-developed protagonists— but the focus didn’t seem like it developed them all that much, and instead kinda just shifted their trajectory to a different, equally-undeveloped path.

• The whole thing with young Lee visually appearing before old Lee and Kei through the remnants of Titan X’s rift in the finale… made no sense to me. The communications via radio between young and old Lee a few episodes earlier made sense within the worldbuilding of the show, but there wasn’t really anything to establish the logic of this whole force-ghost type thing

On the other hand, there was a lot that I thought was great about this season:

• Great storytelling in the young Lee storyline. The tensions with his father really developed his character in a great way.

•. The Lee and Kei affair and resulting subplot was fantastic. Bill’s discovery of Lee’s note to Keiko and the shockwaves it sent really added a depth to the existing tension between the characters that made for truly captivating human storylines— the way it exposed Bill’s motivations for leaving Hiroshi behind (while also later revealing that there was much more complexity to the situation than just Bill ‘abandoning’ him); the way it put a wedge between Keiko and Hiroshi, and how it explored Hiroshi’s hypocrisy for blaming Kei for Bill leaving him, while Hiroshi himself had two families that he kept secret from each other, AND abandoned both of them; the way Lee’s “in another lifetime” sentiment was turned back around on him and his decision to direct young Lee to not engage with Kei when they were both trapped in Axis Mundi.

• The decision to kill off Hiroshi mid-season was very bold. Huge emotional impact, and it showed that the show runners aren’t afraid to have real stakes at hand.

• Titan X was incredibly rendered, and the fact that they showed us so much of her, and in daylight no less… it’s incredible considering the actual monsterverse movies tend to minimize kaiju screentime, and keep the scenes mostly in dim lighting (underground &/or nighttime scenes) to hide any cgi deficiencies.

• Speaking of Titan X, she’s such a wonderful written original kaiju! Incredible character design, super interesting “powers”, and great motives as an intelligent being.

I watched a shootout with the hello kitty fuzz vs about 8 others and there were some boutique names on there and the hello kitty to me was in the top 3 lol! Couple of the most expensive sounded the worst. It’s intriguing listening to pedals in succession playing the same riff(s).

Has it been proven to be pt2399 based? I thought it had to be BBD based on the price and was certainly persuaded by the marketing. Only pt2399 delay I’d spend big money on, if I had too, is the Skreddy delay.

dude, the chase bliss would never be PT2399 based.... but I was hoping it would have actual BBDs in it as well as the digital delay.

The description says "
"Big Time revisits the mixed-up circuitry of rackmount delays from the early 80s, where advanced analog engineering was used to prop up crude digital systems."

And they show a picture of the inside. I don't see anything misleading. Maybe just a misunderstanding.

Out of that bunch I liked the Hello Kitty and (surprise!) the MuffPi2, too.

Favourite, the Kitty for sure.
2nd place: The Pi2 could've been more fuzzy, but I liked the tone of it.
... mmm...
That's it, no third place. Something about each of the others I didn't like.

The worst fuzz was the Pedal Pawn. It sounded great, just don't call it a fuzz.

Time to build the Hammered Kitty. Time to build a lot of stuff. No time to build stuff. The queue continues...

That’s the video! I was listening on good speakers…just listened on my phone and couldn’t really hear the differences. And I agree the Pedal Pawn sounded the worst! The Hello Kitty was definitely at the top. I remember liking the Big Muff too but because it seemed to behave somewhat like a distortion too. If I get the Big Muff 2 may as well get the tone wicker one.

Why? Because they aren’t expensive enough? I’d say 3 out 4 users on TGP wouldn’t know a PT2399 delay from a BBD delay in a blind test. There’s a few that would fool me too if I’m being honest. Until I heard it oscillate atleast.
