Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I don't usually dig bass shredder fronted projects. Saw the Wootens back in '04 or so, Victor, Reggie, and Joseph. While an impressive showing of chops, I was bored 10 minutes in. He even did some chair floating magic tricks.

I feel like Thundercat is actually able to write an interesting melody, and can still shred your face off but without getting so wanky. This one has been rattling around in my head all day. Pretty great compared to the usual fare my brain tortures me with.

This live one has some over the top shred.

IMO, the difference in the Thundercat bass shredding is that it always serves the song first. I get the feeling his approach is more composition than improvisation, which makes it more like a pop hook than a 6-string jazz wank-a-thon.

My bass playing friend took me to a Victor Wooten show, and I was bored.
In return I took him to a Guided By Voices show and he was bored.
Finally we went to "Mac Sabbath", the fast-food based Black Sabbath tribute band, where we found common ground to love.

Jealous! We can all get behind the hamburglar in Peter Criss makeup.
