IMO, the difference in the Thundercat bass shredding is that it always serves the song first. I get the feeling his approach is more composition than improvisation, which makes it more like a pop hook than a 6-string jazz wank-a-thon.I feel like Thundercat is actually able to write an interesting melody, and can still shred your face off but without getting so wanky. Jealous! We can all get behind the hamburglar in Peter Criss makeup. My bass playing friend took me to a Victor Wooten show, and I was bored.
In return I took him to a Guided By Voices show and he was bored.
