    Tacky pots

My latest Tayda and Stomp Box Parts pots have also been coated in this sticky residue. I'm not too worried about it as long as the solder tabs accept solder well.

    Stepped Bit / Progressive Bit

I've used a big box step drill that goes up to 1/2" for years and many hundreds of holes. It's worked very well and the only issues have been user error. Inspecting it, it's got a decent amount of aluminum stuck to it, but it keeps on cutting like a champ. I bought a Harbor Freight larger set...

    Let's review footswitches.

I've used blue 3PDT switches from a few different sources a long time ago and couldn't feel or see any difference between any of them. Now there are a bunch of choices and I'll probably go with ones that aren't the cheapest but not the most expensive either next time I order. Question: Do more...

Fighting the urge to give up

It can be maddening for sure! I remember making a small batch of pedals and a handful of them just didn't work right. Facing the daunting task of retracing my steps and checking all those connections was a challenge. Here's a few silly things I've done to screw up pedal projects: Wiring input...

9mm pots are now available at BLMS - Breaking news for PedalPCB forum people

I'd love to try some on future builds in cramped enclosures and on circuits with lots of pots.

9mm pots are now available at BLMS - Breaking news for PedalPCB forum people

I recall in another thread that some 9mm pots had too few threads to use on thicker enclosures. What's the status on these?

    Buddy's Stripboard Builds

Learning stripboard/Veroboard opened up a TON of new circuits for me. No more using legs from resistors and capacitors to act as traces. Just make sure you have your orientation correct and make all of the trace cuts and you're in business! Here are a few tips that I use when I solder up...

    CONTEST I tried...

51 I'd say that a good Big Muff would be my go-to pedal. From Gilmour to Indie fuzz, it's so much fun. Thanks for the chance!

electrolytic caps… how to test if they are still good?

How long should say a Xicon 16volt electrolytic last in a parts bin, not subjected to any temperature or humidity extremes? I know that electrolytics crap out in amplifiers after decades through watching repair videos on youtube, but hadn't given a thought to my own parts stash.

How to build a 2 Watt Tube Guitar amp for under $5 in tubes Unique 6CL6 design Cheap tunes 4 Free

Cool! I'm most likely going to use it as a stand-alone preamp to put in the loop of a couple amps that I have that don't have the best tone. I also envision trying it as a bass preamp or even as a pedal if it cooperates with my different amplifiers.

How to build a 2 Watt Tube Guitar amp for under $5 in tubes Unique 6CL6 design Cheap tunes 4 Free

Are you guys talking about the Frog FX1 tube preamp (Alembic F2B)? I soldered one of them up but have to make the leap to getting it into an enclosure. I've got no info to share now but once I get it running (cross your fingers) I'd be willing to share my impressions.

    Removing 8 Pin Sockets

I struggled with an 8-pin socket while soldering it onto the pcb. I had taped it flush (or so I thought) and it slipped and ended up crooked. Try as I might, I couldn't get all 8 legs hot enough to keep the solder in a liquid state and I just gave up and decided to live with it. I always use...

    Post your other electrical/electronic projects...

A few years ago we painted the interior of our house and each and every light switch and outlet looked like they had been smoking nonstop for decades and only drinking strong black coffee. They looked really awful, so I swapped out every one of those yellowed monsters and to my surprise, they...

    Gravitational Reverb

Love your pedal artwork! Brings me back to my youth and my brother's GI Joe collection. I've got this one soldered up and just have to box it. I have high hopes for it.

    Small Bear shutting down

I don't think so. Transferring all their stock and organizing it might take some time.
