Aion L5 Preamp (Lost & Found)

Three years ago, I built out my first Aion L5 Preamp and forgot about it. Since then, I built out 5 more for clients. But that first one got lost in my shuffle of boxes, bags and bins of electro-church stuff. In prepping this week for a local 'Maker's Show/Event' next month, I came across a box labeled simply "L5". Inside I found my lost (1st) L5 build. Made my week for sure.



With a Bob Moog designed filter circuit, this is an amaze-balls preamp for sure. Goona put this on my acoustic pedalboard.

I always wanted to build the L5 preamp (mainly because of the B.B. King )
Sadly I haven't heard any good demo of it. Were your other builds also the first version of this project or have you tried the newer one?

Yes. All of them were the 1st version builds. It's a very flexible and great sounding pedal.

i've only built aionfx kits to date, this is now going to be the first i build from pcb. already in love, nice build.

Well, there are two channels (both with excellent tone controls) and compression in that build. So yeah, lots of knobs.

My friend who got me into King's X told me about the L5. I then found one on Craigslist years later and nabbed it. After my son was born and money was tight, I felt bad having all these toys and sold it (ouch).

Then when Aion announced it was coming I eagerly emailed him saying I was stoked. He sold me one of the early boards he had before it was finalized and I built it. It was still too early in my journey and I never quite got it working right. I just took all the chips and transistors out and built the drive section only version he put out.
