I'm a huge fan of the FZ-1 circuit and had this breadboarded for a few months playing with all the transistors until committing it to a pcb.
I used SFT-353s from Amplified Parts for the Q1-Q3 and they ranged in hfe from 80ish to 115. The build went really quickly and really had no issues whatsoever.
I highly recommend building this one.
As far as the case went, I was going for a little Metallica Black Album with a Chupacabra following my theme of Cryptid creatures on my pedals. I might change the knobs from gold to black, but right now I really like the contrast the gold knobs give.
