As per title…

Didn’t have my DMM with me, as it wasn’t planned in advance to look at it tonight, so unable to check continudity vs signal-incontinence.

Pulled it apart, contact-cleanered all contacts and plugged it in while apart and tested — worked!

Job well done, so… Put it back together and that put it back to kaputskied. From faint-horn before operation, to working, to nada horn,eh tall.

So, looking to arm myself with forum’s collective wisdom before tackilling it a gin.

Horn plugs in to three prongs right of remaining plugs lower left (unplugged in above pic, of course)



Above: Cable in “HI” just to get it out of the way while monkeying with camera for the pic.

Ruled out:
Cables, they’re good;
Power-amp, new & good;
Mixer, works.

Ran out of time, so I will pull the back-panel next time, but to reiterate…

IT WORKED WHILE APART!

Can’t fathom a grounding issue, but can’t rule it out either, yet.

I think the final part of your post explains a lot. There seems to be continuity issues unrelated to the speaker

More seriously, looks like changing all the rusted parts would do some good? Looks more rusty than a USSR charter boat.

Good luck tackling it a gin. I have whiskey good luck. Vodka you know, it could end up working.

Yeah, I’m hoping some more cleaning will do it, but it worked while apart…

We only had one drink each, but maybe they were doubles? It was enough to embolden us to rip it apart in the first place.

When we go at it a gin, I’m muddling mojitos, Chuck D. Bones’ recipe, for good luck.

Rusty connections have a way to work in one position, get fiddled with and stop working until you nudge them again. I would give this a shot first really (at least before the tequila shot). The other problem with rust is the swelling with can make physical contacts unstable.
