Questions data medias

What are the best media for long-term storage?

Is it rare or common for 2.5" HDDs to have bitrot, demagnetization and other problems that corrupt data? For a 2.5" HDD + USB3.0 case that will be used once or twice a year?

I end up storing all my important files in Google Drive because as long as it exists, I’m not worried that they will lose any data (they have crazy redundancy). But I also don’t have a ton of digital media to store (photos mostly). I used to use Carbonite for the same reason but it’s not free.

I would say, if you want a home storage solution look into redundant storage. They sell RAID configurations of various kinds.

Just curious, but why are you posting these questions here? You’ve created a number of threads about topics like hard drives and video game consoles, but no posts related to PedalPCB or building effects pedals, which is the topic of this forum. Care to explain?

guys... it's Cloud from Final Fantasy 7. He is a video game character, of course he is worried about bitrot. I would be too if I was a video game character. bitrot is no laughing matter. We could lose all our childhood favorites to bitrot one day. First Cloud... then Mario....
