Low Tide off the bucket list!
I’ve been looking forward to this and also kinda dreading it for a long time. I read ALL the troubleshooting threads on these last year and got pretty intimidated. Not having a specific build doc for the mini version didn’t help, but thankfully everything I needed to know was posted here somewhere so a big thank you to everyone who’s done these and posted their results.
Once I tracked down some shorty capacitors, everything else was mostly straightforward. I did make a couple subs for harder to find parts using stuff that folks had posted as verified. I used an Ne5532 op amp for the mpc602, Bat41s for the bat48s in d1 and d2, and a 5817 for d3.
Couple little build things I hadn’t tried before. Used some bare buss wire on the dc jack and the switch board which worked out nice, and I found some scrap two conductor thermostat wire that worked out great for the LED. Since there’s no build doc, I grabbed a random 6 knob template for drilling and I didn’t catch that the LED location was different. This was also the first time I hand soldered smd jfets. I’ve done a couple with paste and hot air, but at least for tiny jfets, I think the iron was probably easier. Gave em a dab with a flux pen for good luck, put a little solder on one pad, tacked that leg down, and then the other two legs were easy.
She powered up and passed sound right away, but initially I got no wet effect. A little messing with the trimmers got it wobbling and I was able to unclench.
Extra glad it worked out since I’ve got two more of these to build for friends.
I spent a bunch of time this afternoon playing it and messing with the trimmers and settings. It does a few different types of sounds that I’m really enjoying.
I reposted the Fairfield demo again just because I dig the trippy nonsense. It’s a good watch if you haven’t seen it.
