Built mostly stock, my tweaks are -
Box is a Klon clone thing from DemonFX on AliExpress. The knobs shipped with the enclosure, so I went with those
This is also my first demo with the Two Notes Opus, still working out how to make it sound best recorded direct
Also, I still don't know how to play metal
All the GCI stuff I've built has been quality, and this one is no exception. Easily my favorite of this family of circuits, and I prefer this over the Socialist because of it simpler control layout. My impression, tonally, is that it's sort of like a modernized Rat mixed with a DS-1. One end of the Voice (Loudness) control is full mids w slightly attenuated volume, while the other is a rather sharp and extreme scoop @ around 500hz, so it can do heavy and chuggy, but still has a ton of cut. Getting it to feedback is also incredibly easy with the gain above 9 o'clock
I'd definitely recommend this for dirt lovers. It's simple, doesn't use any rare parts and Kurt at GCI is a bad mofo. It can do some really nice lower gain stuff, but I feel it works best with the gain above 10 o'clock. It's also fairly dynamic for how much gain it pushes
- R5 increased to 10k to increase the gain of the input stage a bit
- Distortion increased to 100kD to compensate for the higher LED threshold and change the taper slightly
- Clippers replaced with Soviet LEDs (1.9vf)
- C5 increased to 4.7u to push a smidge more low end into the clipping stage
- Voice is 250k as I don't have any 1MB
- Chips are metal can LF353s for the mojo or whatevs
