Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Got out the audio probe and when I touch the base of Q1, the volume jumps to what I would expect to be correct functionality. And when I press on the back of the PCB on the solder points for Q2 (circled), the volume jumps as well. So I'm guessing the issue is somewhere in that area. Any chance...

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Yep, however from what I understand from the schematic, Q2 is wired like a diode with the emitter not connected to anything so it doesn't matter which way it's turned. Flipped it both ways and nothing is changed. At this point I don't think the transistors are the issue behind the low volume...

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

The MPSA18's I have are right around that hfe, so those seem to be good. Checked all cap and resistor values and those look correct. Guess it's time to get the audio probe. Thanks again for your help!

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Swapped in two PN2222A's for the metal can 2N2222A's and the fuzz is now a bit more gnarly with more oscillation, but still no increase in volume, even at max level. Maybe it's the MPSA18's causing the volume drop? Is there an HFE I should aim for with those? These are from Tayda, fwiw.

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Thanks Fuzzonaut! I'll try moving some of the transistors around later this evening. Currently have metal can 2N2222A's in both Q2 and Q4. Did you sub in a PN2222A for Q2? Side note: Is there a difference between 2N2222A vs 2N2222? I only have a bag of the former model. And the 2N2222A's I...

Moonn Night Destroyer - Low Volume?

Anyone out there put together a Night Destroyer by Moonn Electronics (https://moonnelectronics.bigcartel.com/product/night-destroyer) Got it as a "bonus" along with an order (Thanks, Nils!), and from the description its a clone of the Devi Ever Destructo Noctavia octave fuzz. Demo makes the...

Aion Aperture... Little to no gain?

Well, @KR Sound was right. Fired right up after moving Q3 over one pad. I wish all of these were that simple! But going back to my other question... how to determine the correct voltage at each of the transistor pins. Is it as simple as RTDSS (read the data sheet, stupid)? Or is there a formula...

Aion Aperture... Little to no gain?

D'oh! Looks like I put the socket in the wrong spot. Thanks so much! Will pull that out and give it ago.

Aion Aperture... Little to no gain?

I'm assuming this is an easy question, but here goes... how do you determine the proper voltage at the transistor pins of a given circuit? Is it a formula or would it be on the datasheet for that component? I've read a few forum posts where the person posing the query is asked to provide voltage...

    Moonn Good Vibes

Ended up getting a few VTL5C1 vactrols along with a recent Amplified Parts order. Swapped one in, but no discernible change in the depth/intensity of the vibrato. Although the indicator status LED was much dimmer... I'm guessing that's down to using a diffused yellow LED for status versus...

    Moonn Good Vibes

Yea, I thought about going the Vactrol route instead of rolling my own. Maybe I'll grab a few on my next order, although $6.50 seems kinda steep. Definitely agree on Nils's boards. Really nice guy and the 5 or 6 of his I've put together have been a lot of fun, as well as a learning experience...

    Moonn Good Vibes

I went with the yellow diffused as well, but am not getting much in the way of depth unless that pot is all the way cw. Has that also been your experience? Saw a post on the effectslayouts board for the Magnavibe on which the Good Vibes is based, and they suggested Ireplacing the 100nf cap with...

Ridiculously loud output volume with Roboto

Hi there. Reviving an old thread... Were you able to determine the cause of the excessive volume and dissimilarity to the DBA Robot in demos? I just finished this build and am having the same symptoms... Volume goes from nil to full blast at about 7:00 on the A100k pot even with the trimmer all...

Two Sticks of Derm Fuzz gain control

Thanks again! I'll have at this once my next parts order arrives... forgot I'm all out of 1/4" jacks... d'oh

Two Sticks of Derm Fuzz gain control

Following here for ideas. I had purchased a pre-drilled 1590b for another one-knob project that also included an additional hole on the face for a spdt/dpdt. That idea sort of fizzled, so picked up a TSoDF pcb to build out a doom-y type fuzz. But what to do with that other spot? Any good...

DBA Reverberation Machine w/ Feedback mod

Yep, sounds like that would work. I'm trying to think through how to get the LED to stay in that spot, but I guess the brick will hold it in place somewhat. I picked up a number of boards from Moonn a few months back and most of them seem to line up drill template wise... the 125b designed ones...

DBA Reverberation Machine w/ Feedback mod

I'm assembling this one now with a drilled enclosure I put together using Tayda's Box Tool. Below is the template I used, although you may want to edit it a bit. I had anticipated doing both the drykill and the feedback mods, but forgot about the belton brick's position relative to the hole for...

PCB Guitar Mania - Fuzz Blaster

Looks like it was a bad 3pdt. Guess I'll start springing for the slightly more expensive ones. Thanks for your help!

PCB Guitar Mania - Fuzz Blaster

I've got the jacks wired up with ground going to the sleeve lug and the input (& output on the other side) on the tip lugs... according to the enclosed jack diagram on the PedalPCB Wiki (https://wiki.pedalpcb.com/wiki/Jacks). So I think that's correct and have checked the continuity with a...

PCB Guitar Mania - Fuzz Blaster

Does anyone have tips for PCB Guitar Mania boards? I've completed around 10 PedalPCB projects, a few from Moonn, some from GuitarPCB and have been able to get all of them working with a reasonable amount of troubleshooting (touch wood). But this is my first attempt at a PCBGM board and I'm...
