PCB Guitar Mania - Fuzz Blaster

Glad you got it working! I can say I’ve successfully built two of them, so they’re good. Although, you’ve got to be careful with PCBMania boards. Not all of them work. I’ve had a couple duds. Also, funny all the boards I have built that sounded great, my 5 star reviews are up for everyone to...

DEMO ROG Umble (and my new Telecaster)

Love your write ups and your demos!!! Gorgeous tone, my man!! Listened to it a few times in a row. :)

    Philips ON4292 = BS170?

Has anyone heard of/used the Philips ON4292 MOSFET? I recently purchased, what was described as “Philips BS170” and instead received Philips ON4292. I didn’t find a ton of info on these, or whether they’re a direct replacement/different manufacturer number for the BS170. Curious if anyone...

DBA Reverberation Machine w/ Feedback mod

Thanks! Definitely get the pcb and measure it first. It’s very close to the Arkaim, but off enough to cause problems. I ended up getting a small digital calipers from Amazon (for around $30) and they’ve proven to be extremely helpful.

DBA Reverberation Machine w/ Feedback mod

I thought about it…. Would be cool in a larger enclosure where you could use three footswitches. Although, I thought the addition of a toggle wouldn’t be that helpful and it would tempt me to click it with my foot…..

DBA Reverberation Machine w/ Feedback mod

After building a couple Death By Reverb pcbs from PCBMania and being disappointed with a strong muffled/super dark tone on both, I stumbled across the Space Is Fun by Moonn Electronics. Not only does this pcb just nail the RM, it’s got a couple mods to choose from as well. One is a dry kill...

Fairchild 2n3903’s hfe in 80’s at AIONFX

Got it, that makes sense. Thanks for the heads up!

Fairchild 2n3903’s hfe in 80’s at AIONFX

The ones at Mouser are the ones I purchased before. They’re typically 115-125 hfe, as opposed to those FSC’s from Aion in the 80’s. They sound fine with the Carbon, but the others sound noticeably better. Less high end, tinny fuzz with the lower hfe ones. I’ll have to try the Carbon with two...

Fairchild 2n3903’s hfe in 80’s at AIONFX

Stumbled across these and thought they’d be great for the Carbon Fuzz and other circuits that require low hfe silicon BJT’s. Just got some in and they all seem to be in the low to mid 80 hfe. For whatever reason, description on below link says 2n3904. Once you click on it, you’ll see they’re...

Best software for making drill templates?

Thank you for the in depth response. I’ll check out Inkscape and see what I can come up with. That’s exactly what I was looking for, thank you!!

Best software for making drill templates?

Yes, that’s exactly it. I figured I’d measure the controls on the pcbs and transfer to some sort of program that can save/print out templates. At the end of the day, I’d like to be able to have a result similar (if not more crudely similar) to the drill templates on the PedalPCB build docs. I...

Best software for making drill templates?

Hello All, Hope the PedalPCB family is doing well. I recently came across some pcbs that don’t offer drill templates (Moone Electronics) and thought, rather than to draw/measure free hand, there’s got to be software (or something) available to do just that. I’m not great with computers...

    Warm Audio Foxy Tone Fuzz

Yeah, it’s more than likely a Foxx Tone Machine. Great circuit with a ton of sustain, if using trannies in the 400 hfe range. The earliest used 2n3565’s in the 200’s and were lower gain, not nearly as popular though. AionFX has the Vulcan with a three way toggle for the octave (instead of the...

    Resistor Value Hack

Very interesting. I always preferred the ol’ scrape off the color codes and paint your own to match preferred resistance 🤪

    grumble skuzz/propolis 2N2222A question

The magnificent Chuck made mention of transistor needs in the Propolis, in an unrelated post. Helped me tremendously with that circuit. I’d go a bit further and read the thread as well. Also, if you haven’t yet, tons of great info in the Boneyard. :) 2. Differential-transistor octave...

DEMO The Boomstick - PCB Guitar Mania Solid Metal (AmpTweaker TightMetal)

Looks and sounds amazing! I actually built a couple of these (side by side) and was very underwhelmed with the final product on both. I tried both of the recommend resistors for R9, but just ended shelving them because I thought something was wrong with the trace. Yours sounded great! Makes...

    Aberration Fuzz (Focus Fuzz)

Just finished one of two last night. Used an MP38 (88 hfe with very low leakage) and two BC108b’s (319/322). Biased MP38 to 4.5v and it sounds fantastic! Also, used a 15k trimpot (just in case) but I’m not sure it’s needed as it seemed that 10k would work no problem. Gonna audition a few...

    Aberration Fuzz

Ended up biasing to 4.5v, I think that’s it because it sounds exactly like the demos -in case anyone else is wondering. Fantastic circuit!! Also, used two BC108b’s (319/322).

    Aberration Fuzz

Is the MP38 supposed to be biased at 4.5v? Thanks!!
