Ain't no Loser (Sonic Reducer)

Finished this up earlier today, but have been fiddling with adding an LFO to the sample Rate pot. Wasn't able to really find a sweep or waveform I was fond of with this particular effect. With an Uber slow triangle wave, it could get a little phasery, but meh. So, in the box it goes, cold and alone.
Still need to whip up a daughterboard for the StompLFOs I just got in today, the random levels and slopes and ramp waves might be more to my liking 🤷‍♂️
Only mods are swapping the direction of the pots, with the Sample Rate now being Log instead of anti-log. I find the 837 gives a much more prominent aliasing effect with maybe a slightly wider range than the 074. It also produces a lot less less oscillator whine, even with the gate trim full up it's barely audible. The circuit just seems to work and sound better with BJT inputs, just like the Colin Raffel original. I believe I used a 324 in the last one I built.

And without further ado, an enclosure color way I've never once used, and had hardly even heard of ....

Have kind of a scattered day, but I will try to work up a demo when I have time

Not that I have any issue with the way mine sounds, but I am always up for chip rolling. Might need to check my IC stash for an 837 or 324.

One thing I wasn't enamored with the v2 of this circuit was how much more subtle the aliasing and crush were compared to the v1, and the straight clones of Raffel's "Analog Bit Crusher". It definitely benefits from having a BJT input opamp in the oscillator.

No 837s in my stash, but do have the 324 plus some tl974 (probably too similar to the 074), but also some LF347 that look comparable to the 837. C’mon quad opamp, papa needs some crazier crush!

I was hoping you were going to like the mod board. I considered swapping mine from my arcadiator to my reducer but I guess it stays where it is for now.

Sweet build! Where did you get the StompFLo's?

I was not terribly impressed with the mod board on the sonic reducer I built for my co-worker. He seemed to like it though.

LM2902 is also decent, but does whine a bit more. I forget how the 347 behaved

It might be something you're into, so I say give it a go. I'm gonna try a few other vactrols tomorrow, so far I've just used VTL5C1 and 5C9, but I've got a few others to run through.
I'm kinda spoiled with bitcrushers, having the Andamento thought :ROFLMAO: . Highly recommend that one, if you're into the crushies .

Electric Druid
Yeah, just doesn't really add anything that wowed me, not even as a novelty.

Yep, straight from Electric Druid. Only took a week and a half, too
