Art for Art’s Sake: Sharing artwork and WIPs

We’ve got threads here for sharing what we’re working on in the pedal world; threads for sharing what’s in the mailbox; threads for sharing our original music; threads for our WIP pedal graphics… how about a thread for art?

We’ve got plenty of talented artists here, and surely many of us are doing works that don’t really relate to pedals at all. I myself am a studio art major, with a concentration on sculpture and ceramic.

This is a thread to share your visual art in all of its forms. Paintings, sculptures, digital art, prints, sketches— you name it! Post your old works, recently completed works, works in progress, doodles… whatever. Please, share away!

To start, here are some linocut prints I did for my printmaking class recently…

Super cool but I though this wasn't about pedals. Those is pedals, bruh.

I had to look that one up. I love how there's absolutely nothing but the battery below the switch. Gluttony. Screenshot_20230311_125050.jpg

Alright, I'll bite- here's a little sketch inspired by the tune 'What's a Telephone Bill?' by the legendary Bootsy Collins:

They named a pedal after West Edmonton Mall's phase V?

GEEZE, those Ghermezians... There's only 3 phases, unless they annex some residential. Next they'll commission a pedal for phase VIII...

Today was admitted students day at my school, and I volunteered to hang out in the ceramics studio all morning and give a rundown of the ceramics (and sculpture) facilities to each of the tour groups that came by. In my downtime I decided to get a bit funky with some of my failed slipcastings (ie; the ones that broke in half when I was opening my molds) to make a (slightly morbid) proof of concept for what I’m planning as my final project. Sent a picture of it to my sister (who herself is a ceramicist, and studied under the same professor I currently have) and she said it reminds her of Phineas Gage.

Working titles:
  • Defaced
  • I Forgot About Eye Protection
  • Low-Budget Facial Reconstruction
  • The Advanced Metalhead
  • Galvanized to Action

@Bricksnbeatles ☝️ that's looking really cool!
Any plans on finishes or are you going to fire it as-is?
First it’ll be Bisqued (which is the initial firing to semi-vitrify it, bringing it from the incredibly fragile bone-dry greenware, to the solidified bisque state– often called stoneware, but that’s an entirely different state that is achieved by a much hotter firing to fully vitrify the clay), and then I *may* apply a generous red iron oxide wash to parts of the tools, which will then get an intense gunmetal effect when fired in reduction (see my test tiles in the pic below), but I think I’ll likely paint the rest hyper-realistically by hand with acrylics in order to give a Trompe-l'œil sort of vibe.

Cool!

I learned a simplified vocabulary over here- instead of 'Bisque,' we would 'fire' to make stoneware *although I absolutely would've preferred the mouthful that is 'solidified bisque state!' Finally, we would, 'fire again' after glazing or stains :ROFLMAO:

I really like the iron-oxide idea. The subject matter seems like it'd do well with the raw texture rather than a smooth glaze- although a white glaze dunk would look creepy A.F.. Lots of cool options!

Please upload a photo of whatever you decide to do!

Wow! I remember you posted a pic of your original face-mask, super-cool to see where that went/where this came from.

I liked your sister's response, what about working titles ...

"Gage'd Reaction"

"Rage in the Gage" or simply "Gage Rage"

Gettin more silly...

"Gage Gauge"

"Nick Less Gage"
