In get that. But is "multi-channel" a either or(switched parallel), or will the circuits be in series?
l read multichannel as either/or on a footswitch and bypass on a footswitch.
As in a multichannel preamp...
Acclam failed to include the Fuzz in the Original Dr Robert so even if the Fuzz is seperate , its a Bonus!

I haven't built the Pharmacist yet, but I have built a Conqueror Supreme which Is similar, I could do without the boost, you can always add an external one in your chain, and as noted above it's not the originals boost.

In my head the plan was Fuzz > Pharmacist, similar in structure to the original amp.

A bypass footswitch for the whole pedal, and another footswitch to activate the fuzz in front of the Pharmacist when the pedal is active.

I have to find my Pharmacist prototype so I can play around with the combination together and see what actually works best.... just because it sounds like a good idea doesn't mean it is. :ROFLMAO:

Gotcha
Like two beautiful people with ugly kids...🤣
I'd prefer the boost stay, at least on a toggle switch. Not having one kinda neuters the pharmacist some. The ability to move the boost pre each circuit would be nice as well.
It just seems, to be worthwhile, adding functionality would be prerequisite to necessitate the reworking. Just sticking both circuits in a box, mostly as is, seems rather redundant.

The issue with moving the boost around is that it is, more or less by definition, the very end stage of the original Phamacist design (or rather, a choice between two differently-biased end stages).

The more that I fiddle with this circuit, the more it feels to me that Vox got it right in the amps the first time round. Also, I'm pretty sure Aclam's "bias" on the Mocker/Beatle Juice is born of a schematic mistake – their base resistors on Q2 might work well to help control the fuzz in fuzz mode, but don't work so well when trying to run it as a clean channel. I'd even go so far as to say that the Sergeant Fuzz might be a better platform than the BJ for this project, at least up until the redundant mids control (and ditching the asymmetrical clipping diodes)...

Waddaya tokkin’ bowt?!?

There’s a TON of 1590XX builds,
just pick any two N1-sized PCBs and stuff ‘m in an XX!

If 1590BB, I vote for minimalism in a vertical (portrait) mode;
and if 1590XX then the full works in landscape mode.

Really decisive, I know.
i always forget that the enclosures can be sideways... it's so subversive

I would likely build it in a box roughly 140mm x 120mm either way. Can it have separate EQs for the 2 channels? I had one of these View attachment 65427
briefly. Aside from being bulky, mediocre sounding, and requiring its own power adapter with the 1 EQ you could pretty much never dial in the other channel.

That's arguably my favourite drive pedal ever. It's not on my board for a couple of reasons but the sound isn't one of them. I actually purchased a CIOKS AC-10 to power it and the rest of my pedalboard, but it's not externally switchable and it doesn't like having power connected after a couple of hours. Mine blew a power transistor at some stage (replaced and fixed) but I ended up capturing it into my Mooer Preamp Live and using it that way (and then the Mooer blew up).

The power thing isn't really that much of an issue anymore, most modellers will need 9 or 12v @600ma+ at a minimum but the AC16v@800ma was a big ask at the time (and a bit odd). Now you're looking at 1A+ with the new Darkglass and Kemper modellers.

IIRC, it actually had diode clipping, much like the Valvestate amps, and I'd love to see a smaller version of it.

Also @Robert if you do this in a 1590XX (which I think is a better choice anyway), might you make the bass and treble controls external? Definitely would be cooler that way 😉

As for name suggestions:
- Ultra Liverpudlian 730 (pretty self explanatory)
- Birdsong/Singing Bird (‘And Your Bird Can Sing’)
- Black Diamond Apple (in reference to the black diamond grill cloth on the ul730 as opposed to the typical brown diamond grill on most Vox stuff, also apple 🍏 being the Beatles label; it’s an actual type of apple that’s pretty neat)
I’m going to say that I’m the FIRST one to come “And Your Bird Can Sing” and I am asserting intellectual rights! 😂 Here’s a current prototype image… y’all got about one or two weeks until it’s debuted. (My wife did the graphic) and I have the Beatle Juice coming down the pike which will will have a complementary graphic and be called “this bird as flown”

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to combine the Pharmacist and Beatle Juice projects into a multi-channel combo, would you prefer:

1) Drop the Boost footswitch from the Pharmacist and keep the project in a 1590BB enclosure?
2) Keep the Boost footswitch and move up to a 1590XX / 4S6500 enclosure?
I would say at first that you should keep all variations- for the people that have built one and not the other already. Maybe down the line just have no boost and the Mocker circuit.. wasn’t the Boost added by Aclam because the amp they were going from for the original build had an inoperable drive circuit, and added the boost in its place?
