Bring out yer Diptrace

@szukalski

Dave,

An update on my I/O experiment.

The first boards came in and lo and behold, major error. In my quest to be super precise and triple check my measurements, it fit like butter first try. I was so pumped.

Until I realized that in my focus on the really hard thing, I forgot the easy thing: Since my jack holes and DC square hole were now inline, really fat pancake plugs and thicker 90 degree DC plugs did not all fit together.

Shit.

So I did a quick revision and some minor widening of existing enclosure jack holes and this batch is saved.

As a final revision, I took the jack out another 1 mm and shrunk some of my square hole margin back.

Side note: out of enclosure assembly is a breeze with the PCB DC jack and I have a pretty good system going after 8 completed builds the other day from this batch.

Awesome stuff! It made my boxing process a lot more efficient (not that I do much). Cooder took the IO board to the next level with a relay on there!

I like to keep it off-board. The relay solutions I have are small enough, and I like to give other builders the option to choose their path.
I am thinking of an on-board set boost with a toggle switch though. The circuit is mid-high gain and really takes off with a boost (though so does the noise).
What if you incorporated it with the option to jumper it in, or leave it unattached?

I have these wonderful little SMD relay boards and you want me to sully a PCB with a through hole version?

But in seriousness, I have thought about it. The main reason to do onboard relay is that it really tidies up your cabling. The only connections at the bottom of the board are for the SPST (and maybe LED). If you offer the option of no relay into that, then your traces become horribly complicated. The main circuit suffers because of it.

So it’s either, relay onboard, my way or the highway, or just do it off board.
