Dandrive pedal prices

@Big Monk has lots to say about this, Kyle chase is his idolšŸ¤”šŸ¤£

It is no secret that I abhor Chase Tone for many reasons, one of which got me a weeks vacation from TGP, but of those his prices arenā€™t one of them.

What annoys the shit out of me about Chase Tone is that because his prices are so good, no one seems to see fit to take him to task about product descriptions and the fact he uses the word magic excessively and seemingly without a winked eye to be seen anywhere.

I do need to lay off him on TGP though so his fuck boys stop reporting my postsā€¦šŸ˜‚

There are enough people out there that if you sell a few, your profit margin is better than trying for larger scale.
Personally, I think @Betty Wont has been missing out on an important market niche. Could have been wrapping your pedals in cling film and calling them vintage for 20x the price!
Hmmmm. Extra linoleum from the reno 15 years ago ā€¦ big enclosures ā€¦ hype-a-dee-hype-hype ā€¦ BRB

Ya, you'll notice that several components get replaced by a single NTE part.
*that*.

Those ā€œfamedā€ NTE103s Cesar Diaz used could have been any of four different rebadged transistors.

ā€œMojoā€ was, is, and always will be snake oil, but building the lore of your ā€œmojoā€ parts on NTE part numbers is particularly egregious.

Makes wrapping your PCBs in fabric seem downright honest and honorable, imho.

I should really make this into a searchable and filterable data-driven page. I might just have to do that sometime!
That would sure beat having to text search that page every time!

If these mojo pedals were THAT good, you would NOT need to become the power of suggestion as hard as some of these builders do.

The prices of these devices are purely driven by the amount of time these builders are putting into wrapping circuits around these transistors.

As a real world parallel, Iā€™m going to be charging $240, which includes shipping, taxes and all fees for my Monk Face pedals.

At the end of the day, even with readily available parts and no I odovidual tuning needing to be done, Iā€™m going to clear less than $100 per pedal after taxes, materials, shipping, etc.

That $100 includes my time as well so itā€™s probably more like $40.

These mojo operatives are putting WAY more time in tuning individual circuits so I get it from a time standpoint. The real beef I have is they are couching it in mystery and mojo rather than just saying, ā€œI value my time at $x.00.ā€

Then there exists someone like Chase Tone. I donā€™t know how the hell that guy is making ANY money selling his Fuzz Fellas at $135.

Isle of Tone fills their pedals with love. Gross.

They at least own how ridiculous their mojo factory is. Also, I think they believe in their own hype so there is something to be admired about that as well.

Again though, if you tell someone that your stuff is worth $1000, that colors peopleā€™s perceptions of the sound before they even hear it.

One exception to the mojo thing is the Dustin Francis IVOR series. He is doing it right and basically makes replicas. He has almost no social media presence or marketing strategy and is not out there selling tj as anything but what they are: Exact recreations of the vintage models.

They appear to fully believe in their own hype. Judging by the website and bios, which gave me hives.

For shits n giggles I breadboarded a mkii tb. Grabbed the 1st three pnp ge transistors I saw. Lucky duck, they all work and it sounds magnificent. Just saved myself $1000, so I maybe now I can get that sweet interface, mic and cables I want? Thatā€™s how money works, right? If I save imaginary money it makes it real? No?!

Shit

Ah well, at least I have this:

This week, I ordered an ECG103 that should also be really close. ECG may be rebadged too, maybe for medical equipment ???
ECG and NTE use the same device numbering system[ā€¦]
As of January 19, 2001, NTE acquired the assets of ECG, and it seems inevitable that NTE will now dominate the replacement semiconductor marketplace. The numbering scheme used by ECG, and later copied by NTE, had already become the accepted default long before the acquisition of ECG by NTE.

Getting away from all the mojo and cloth conversation I would chime in and say all his builds sound fantastic!
But this is a mojo and cloth haters thread! šŸ¤£. No, fair enough man. Fair enough. Credit where due, the pedals do at least sound good. So does my breadboard. We all have priorities and budgets, so live and let live. My hives have resolved so I feel more charitable towards all of ā€˜em.
