Delegate Compressor sustain knob causing distortion

First time pedal builder, so bare with me if I’m missing something here, but after completing the build, if I turn the sustain knob past 9-9:30 there is a fair amount of distortion that’s introduced.

I also need to have the level knob down REALLY low or I’m getting a massive boost to my signal…

Without examining the pics, I'll suggest...
Check all your resistors to make sure you've got the correct values in each location.

Note, there are resistors with colour-bands that are tricky and should be measured with a DMM (outside of the circuit) ... for example:

The volume bump could be from having a 120Ω resistor in place of a 10k. R15, for example.

brown black black red brown = 10k
brown red black black brown = 120Ω

Which might also explain the distortion, by way of overloading the circuit.
