Not much personal to add; I saw them a few times and he was a big part of the draw. Certainly someone whose tone was worth emulating.

This one hurts as he was a major influence on my playing. Just glad that I got to see him a few times before he passed.

As a side note, what is it about drummers: Jaimoe (Allman Brothers), Artimus Pyle (Skynyrd) and Carl Palmer (ELP)- for some reason the drummers seem to be the only remaining members of these classic bands.

Sad news indeed! I grew up in the heyday of the ABB, saw them many, many times.

I worked a few ABB shows around 1980-ish and was lucky enough to be able to hang onstage close to but just far enough away from Dickey's stack. Good times for sure.
