I notice that YouTube has a number of credible contributors insisting that modelers or analog preamps should be followed by a DI box then to FOH mixer. If the unit puts out a line level signal why the need for another piece of hardware?

I notice that YouTube has a number of credible contributors insisting that modelers or analog preamps should be followed by a DI box then to FOH mixer. If the unit puts out a line level signal why the need for another piece of hardware?

It's more about impedance than signal level, best practice is to have a nice low-impedance signal to the input of the FOH mixer. Is it absolutely essential? Not usually. Is it a good idea? Sure is.
