Dirty keys

Good lord, I thought I was cute for finding a poorly chopped "classroom" wurly top for 400. No major overhauls but we cleaned it up, tuned it and flipped it for the baby rhodes that was in great shape. I feel like the baby rhodes is kind of mine but I can let go since he's basically family and I suuuuck at piano.

Been trying to find a cheap wurli for ages. My favorite keyboard

$400 still seems plenty "cute" to me!
I too am a very bad at pianio.
Synths are what I'm really interested in as far as keyboards go but I'm still taking the babiest of baby steps in that foreign language..

EVERY time I'm figuring out an organ or keyboard part, I realize my left hand is just playing the bass guitar parts. But like that's the most fun of it

I was walking to the bus stop on my way to work one morning and saw an old Wurlitzer organ sitting beside a dumpster...

Took off running back home to grab a hand truck and drug that sucker back to the house. Missed the bus, and work that day, but I ended up with a working Wurlitzer for free after replacing a fuse.

I used to love playing acoustic guitar while playing the bass notes with the pedals.

Nice- toe bass is the best!
I've got a set of those pedals and a kit to turn it into a MIDI controller for synth- I really need to get to that project soon..

I’ve been meaning to do that too. I’ve been on able to get a pk-5a or pk-6 after years of searching (the one time I did score one, it arrived completely trashed and gross and the seller tried scamming me until reverb intervened). I don’t really dig my KMI 12 step, so making a homemade one seems the way to go. Thomann has a kit with the plastic Fatar Keybed, but I wish I could get the metal keybed sonehow— contacted Fatar and they don’t sell direct.

This reminds me that I want a moog Taurus. Similarly I was once offered a free hammond organ (not an especially cool model) but I couldn't find anyone to help me move it so I borrowed a Chevy s10 and dragged the bastard into the bed by myself with no hand truck/dolly. Man... I miss my young spine.

Dooo ittt

Speaking of prices on Rhodes and Wurlis, this is the kind of deal you typically find for a wurli in NY 🥶
My god… you can’t even find a botched classroom-model chop for under $4k unless you’re willing to put at minimum another $2k of work into it.

Ugh, that thing doesn't look like it's gonna make it. Somebody put it out of it's misery.

The problem is making good matches, ie seller to buyer.

There is somebody out there that NEEDS the bits from that wreckage, but if the seller doesn't hook up with the buyer then the seller gives up and all those Wurlitzer bits go in the garbage and are gone forever thus making the Wurlitzer pool of operational instruments that much smaller and driving up prices that much further.

Same thing happens with vintage car parts... 😿
