CONTEST Fig Friday 🤦‍♂️

CONTEST
Sadly (happily?) I don't have much to contribute to the thread. I do have around 97 purple/UV LEDs which actually look pretty good in a pedal in a low-light environment but which I am unlikely to ever use up. They're better than the ones Tayda sells. I don't know why I bought a bag of 100 of them, though. I'm guessing the price was right.

EDIT: I also live about as far from Europe as you can get while still being on the same planet, so I am officially recusing myself from the competition, just wanted to share the fun/shame.

I have a stash of 10 overly large caps as well. I'm happy to hear that I'm not alone on that one.
The bag sits next to the bag of 100 pot condoms I accidentally ordered from Stompbox parts last year. I thought I was ordering 10. Turns out it was 10 bags of 10. Not a big deal $$$.

Got a brand name for those LEDs? Been needing to grab some UVs

If you started this hobby / journey with little or no knowledge of components and packages, it can be extremely discouraging and disappointing to finally receive the part(s) to complete a build, only to discover you've ordered the wrong stuff. Just remember, it's your hobby and supposed to be enjoyable. Chances are, someone else bought too many of what you need, and that other dude could really use whatever you mistakenly ordered. Not to mention, I've ordered the wrong stuff, only to need it later. :ROFLMAO:

Now go build something! And double-check that order! ;)

Yep, about 7 or 8 years ago, I ordered 1 watt resistors instead of 1/4. I just now (last month) needed one for the black eye build. 🤣🤣

Lol, I did the same thing but with ultra bright water clear green LEDs. They were super cheap on clearance somewhere. My silhouette is burned into the ceiling of my basement now. Yay impulse purchases!
 
I have had a partially built Boss PH-1r sitting on my desk for 3 months. It requires 6 1u box caps. I have plenty…but mine are all too big. So I order some. Still to big, but smaller. A week or so later, another order, smaller still…BUT STILL TOO BIG. I need skinny ones…

I've ordered some oversized caps, and some incorrect jacks — I tried to give them to my amp-sifu, they're of the size he needs/uses — he insisted I keep them, that I might need/want/use them someday. Well, he was right, of course. I still have a number of them left, but...

It's good to have a parts stash!



No serious order gaffs, though I've got some of those large-ish diodes mentioned in the thread, as well.


The worst order gaffs are spending hours that turns into DAYS scouring a website to compile an order only to try to place it minutes before the sale coupon-code expires and either

a) that all important part that was in stock at the beginning of the weekend sale is now out of stock;​
​
b) getting an error-code from the vendor saying the coupon is invalid/expired/reached-its-limit.​


I mean, WTFudgsicle, Synthbearsmallcube (et al suppliers)? It's at least 10 minutes before the sale-code expires when I'm placing the @#$%^&* order!
HOURS over DAYS all WASTED.

Not an order snafu, but back when I was in secondary school (UK equivalent of high school) my physics teacher helped me build my first amp... we were planning the power supply and he said "I've got some superb capacitors, they'll be just the job". Imagine my surprise when yes, they really were quite literally the size of Coke cans. I mean they were lovely yes, but not overly practical let's face it. God only knows where he'd filched them from. Bless him.
