Font talk

Anyone know the font used for the original Maestro logo in the 60s and 70s? Pretty sure it's just a modified letraset font, but I can't remember the name

This one is stumping me. I think you’re right in re letraset, but I came up empty going through some archives.
Stumping me too. For some reason I had always thought it was Allegro or Lunda, the former of which being pretty far off. Lunda has some similarities but isn’t it either. Both are derivatives of Corvinus Kursiv which might be a useful starting point for anyone else.

Even the current administrators for Maestro Electronics can't seem to locate the original font, as the font used on their FB page and Gibson website is different.

The current one is what was used on the first FZ-1 (essentially a connected version of the Gibson logo font) which is kind of weird to use considering it predates the horn logo that they’re also using

Anybody know a font in Adobe Illustrator that is close to the Boss/Roland font? I found "good times" and it seems close. The fonts that I have found searching the internet are not within Adobe's database. Thanks!

I've just been importing into windows fonts and they immediately show up in AI
This was perfect and insanely easy. I didn't know that I could load fonts into Windows and have it available for Adobe. Thanks!

It should. Some older versions would require a reloading of Illustrator, but for the most part it's PnP. If fonts don't show up (at least where they should) there may be a disconnect between the actual filename and the font file's data. I grew up on Mac OS, and Font Book typically does better when showing any errors (even small, annoying ones that don't matter in the long run). Windows has been more "okay, so it installed, it should work"

"…but sometimes it doesn't just work."

Some kind of DIN Condensed might be a good starting point for the “DIE MENSCH MACHINE” part.

Not sure about the “KRAFTWERK” part…looks “early Soviet” like the rest of it. The guy who did the art, Karl Klefisch, calls out El Lissitzky specifically. So I’d have a look at Constructivist/Suprematist typefaces and lettering, if you haven’t already.
