Fretless Baritone?

I made one out an old POS Hondo once, we called it the Less Paul. Never bonded with it at all, it couldn't do anything for me better than a good fretless bass already could. But it was a blast to bring to open mics as the house guitar. ;)

I’ve had a pretty ambitious fretless planned for quite a few years, but I’ve still not started it. 27” scale. FCGDAE tuning. 3 octave fingerboard length. Flatwound strings of course. Sustainer pickup and hexaphonic output. It’s a cello? It’s a viola? It’s a violin? It’s a guitar? It’s all— sorta. But also none.

I'd love to get into making sustainer pickups for slide bass. One of my luthier friends has done a few guitar ones and a bass one is on our long list of potential future projects.

One of my first builds was a 5 string electric mandocello for a violinist buddy of mine. Pretty fun to play but it confused my brain.
