it depends what type of effects you like. I built the deflector, it's a strange reverb but I love it. I've only heard good things about the hydra as well
 
If you're uncertain then one of the Arachnid or Pythagoras based effects would be a good start, because once you build one you've built them all. Just swap the EEPROM and it's an entirely new pedal.

Arachnid - Octagon / Module 8 / Spatialist
Pythagoras - Daydream / D3lay / Radium Springs / ThreeVerb / Unison

The EEPROMs are also interchangeable between the Arachnid and Pythagoras but the Pythagoras only has access to the first three algorithms loaded on the EEPROM, where the Arachnid can access all eight.
 
I started building pedals because I didn't know what i want... have to build them all to find out..lol

I do need a useful reverb that can be super wet for worship music stuff..... I have a patch on my HX Stomp for big Ambient swells that I'm not crazy about and if I could find a stomp to kick on for those moments would be awesome to be able to do ambients pads on the fly.
 
You can build an Arachnid with a custom EEPROM and choose any eight effects you want.
