Got a fun message today

I have a Skeptical Buffer on reverb, among other things. Fun paint job, good effort into the build etc etc. It sounds good but it's not my thing. I got a message from a certain fellow asking me to please take the listing down, quickly followed by a listing suspension.

What's the consensus on the guy? We had a civil conversation, but he was certainly wrong on some points. I asked him to elaborate, and he did. I took the listing down and haven't put it back up, but I like to have a full perspective. He didn't seem to hold this place in the highest regard. Everyone here has always been nice to me.

I used the actual names in the title and listing. My listing was reinstated 10 mins later with the brand name removed from the title but not the description. I read thru Reverb's listing guidelines and it specifically states trademarked names are not allowed to be used with clones. I looked up these names in the official US Trademark & Patent Office website. The names I used, that pertained to this item, are not listed as current, live, pending, or even expired trademarks. I checked a few other pedal companies and they are listed. I mentioned this in the conversation and it was weakly rebuffed. There were some other things that didn't add up but that's to be expected with something like this.

At this time my listing is not active, by my choice. One thing he mentioned was that the trace is different from his design, specifically the +/-15v voltage supply was removed and the circuit was not rebiased for the new power supply. I'd like to have some insight into this. The only thing that really matters to me is being accurate in my listings so if I were to relist them item I want to be correct so the buyer can know what they are purchasing.

I'm not looking for a flame on. Just background info about whether this fits his m.o. and the technical details of the pedal. I don't know enough about electronics to figure it out for myself.

I mean I've never built one, but looking at the schematic it looks like Skeptical Buffer is running a charge pump for the +/-15V supply.

How did the conversation leave you feeling?

Did you feel like you were talking to a concerned engineer or a threatened salesman?

It's off by a volt or two.... and everyone knows that last volt is where the tone is at.

💣

Edit: But I am curious about the not rebiased comment.

It runs on a bi-polar power supply so it's "biased" at 0V.....

I'm sorry ... what's the music-related use case where you're pushing a +/- 15 V signal through a unity gain amplifier?
something about this math isn't mathing

The fact that he saw me as a threat gives me hope for the future

actually, I got the distinct feeling I was being fed a line
My experience is that it's always small shops with simple circuits that try to bully people into removing listings of clones. I've only ever received a cease and desist once, and it was for a circuit with like 8 parts. Ironically it also used a charge pump for the power, and I decided not to copy that part because mine was better.

Eunawarh buffers bugs me the moist?

I've countered 'm a few tymes and there are NOT 29 pedals in that Can-O-Worems.
Like nort even sax of one and a half dozen of the buffer.

That's falsetto eyelashes, mang, or subvertising or eunaaow, whatever...

I sense I either missed an entire dramatic thing around here or the hard living of my youth has caught up to me.

it's ok though, I understand he wanted to market his pedal as studio grade by using the industry standard +/- 15V power supply that mixing consoles use just like he wanted to skirt it being a buffer by calling it a unity gain amplifier just like he wants DIY street cred for socketing the op amp ... let's just call it weaponized semantics.

The way he approached the conversation was polite and informative, not at all threatening. However, he tried to come off as being transparent and humble, but there were obvious holes in his narrative, which I pointed out.

I asked him to elaborate on his thoughts about the design of the PPCB circuit, which he did, and was able to do without devolving into threats and anger. This is why I acquiesced and took down the listing, and came here for some background info. I'm thinking I'll change up my listing and use play on words and "references" etc
