Anybody own one of these?
Hakko FR-301 Desoldering Tool https://a.co/d/9UMrRnC

Curious if it is worth the extra money compared to a simple one like this:

I own the Hakko 808. Apparently, the FR-301 heats up faster. I love mine. I can desolder stuff that I couldn't, otherwise.

I was looking at weller's a couple days ago (ended up buying a new we1010) and saw some electric tweezers. You just grab the item to be desoldered, wait a second and pull. It was out of my league price wise at this point in time, as I have to paint the house (ouch).

I bought the Hakko back when I was doing a bunch of pedal modifications, I like it a lot, just remember to keep the tip tinned just like with your Iron

I have the China clone of that and its been invaluable for amplifier work. Its a little big for these tiny pcb's but is doable with skill. Careful as they get hot and can burn traces.

Search eBay for desoldering gun S-993a. Thats the clone. Ive been using two for the past 15 years pretty steady. They will burn out the elements if left on overnight but they are replaceable for $15. Use a timer. Every so often youll have to clean the diaphram in the pump from flux residue. A must have if your into amplifiers. Game changer.

I‘ve had one for a few years, from back when I was working with some larger SMT chips, and it can be incredibly useful, when you need it. As was mentioned earlier, it does get hot, and by nature the tips are fairly large, so you have to be careful using it. But it really works fast and leaves very little solder behind. It’s fairly complicated, with the vacuum pump, and various filters. I’d be a bit more leery of a clone for something like this as opposed to a simpler solder station.
