How do I spell frustration? "Galaxy S23 Ultra"

I'm sure glad I bought this on ConsumerCellular instead of eBay, because now I can return it for any reason.

How about this one? Samsung has plopped their beta quality software on top of Androids proven apps and NOTHING WORKS. All of the "move your stuff from your iphone" utilities froze half way though, actually interrupting themselves telling me to go to settings to change stuff ON A NEW PHONE TURNED ON FOR THE FIRST TIME.

The straw that broke the camels back? In notes, which I use for effing everything, the font size is so tiny that my little finger can cover four lines. I cannot select any specific words because my finger is too big. So I go into settings/display/text size and make them nice and big.

And true to it's beta form, Samsung notes IGNORES THE FONT SIZE.

So I text a friend and there were a few cuss words, and THE ENTIRE MESSAGE WAS CENSORED.... Like this
S* * t*** * f***** a** t**** w*** * f** c**** w****, a** T** E***** M****** W** C*******

So, anyway, I can't wait for my iPhone 14 Pro Max to arrive.....

Why do manufacturers feel the need to pile all of their garbage on top of a perfectly good operating system?

I don't need your app store, music player, web browser, or "Daily Insights" application to inform me of what's going on with the celebrities today....

I'm not much of a phone person so I just have a cheaper locked model which means from time to time my phone carrier likes to push their apps onto the phone in addition to the manufacturers trash that I can't uninstall.

Just give me a vanilla Android operating system and leave stuff alone!

bonus though. since I don't EVER watch TV on a TV, dad/hubby is no longer the "TV tech support guy" when someone complains about finding the remote or why then can't log into to sitcom.com I just go get a refreshing beverage...

I sold my soul to apple decades ago and have zero regrets...

Garbage is there because internal teams need something to do or nobody gets promoted!

"I've optimised this phone in it's current state and it's super easy to use, but nothing new" --> no promo
"I've built something new and gone to market with it, don't know if it brings value" --> promo, you succeed!

Any time I've ever bought a pre-built "brand name" PC the first thing I did is a full format and reinstall Windows from scratch. I don't need any of the garbage that comes pre-installed.

It's a shame it isn't quite as easy with phones and tablets.

I will say this is the one area where Apple gets it right (although I've never owned a carrier locked iPhone so not sure if they tamper with those).

Unfortunately I tried an iMac and I wanted to love it but just couldn't bond with it.

If you're going with Android, just buy a Pixel. No bullshit, takes GREAT pictures (my most important feature), and it's even reasonably priced. I'm very happy with my 6a, my teenage son is also very happy with his aging 4a -- and he's hard to please with tech, like most teens. Even my wife doesn't complain much about her Pixel 5. and you don't hear her not complaining :)

Well, FWIW, I'm a really big fan of my 14 Pro Max :P

But I would also echo that IMO the Pixel is the best Android experience out there. If I wasn't so ingrained in Apple's ecosystem ("Walled Garden") that would be my first choice.

I'm a programmer, er, excuse me, a 'software engineer' and was eventually manager then director. I *know* some suit said "S23 ships with our new apps or you're toast" to the manager that said "It's not going to be ready in time"

And that's what really irks me the most.

I wanna financially hurt the suit, plus I have no intention of wasting the time it'll take to repair the damage the suit caused to my system/DB.

So I'm returning this HALF BAKED POS!!!

I read the specifications last night, just before I put it in my shopping cart. Need to discuss the return with CC before I click on check out. Looks like a great system, but the GS23U was $30 a month and the 14 Pro Max is $49. ¡¡Aye Carumba!!

I'm glad this thread came up, coincidentally my wife needs a new phone.

I was leaning towards a Pixel, this has helped nudge me in that direction.

Ever since I realized Motorola use a pretty stock version of Android without lots of crazy apps, I've been using their Moto G phones. I'm on my second one now and when it needs to be replaced I'll probably do it again. They're cheaper than Pixels (although I assume Pixels have better cameras because it's a weak spot on the Moto G).

My Moto G Stylus cost all of 200 bucks and it has a great camera. My wife opted for the Moto G Power and the camera...not so much.

I use my phone very very sparingly and the camera gets by far the most use of any function, FWIW.

Pixel 6a is a bit more - I paid C$350 for it, but it does have one of the best phone cameras around at any price. It also has a very useful 0.6x wide angle lens (which I find far more useful than a crazy zoom). To top it off, it's got a pretty well-working AI feature that can delete people from photos (even pics it did not take itself). Woohoo! I don't like people (present company excluded :)

Moto G Power is the one I have too.
We're a few generations back, and got both ours on closeout from the previous year's model, straight from Motorola. The Stylus never would have been my choice at its original price point and I'm not even sure if the camera specs are still the same by now.
