I thought the lm308 was scarce.

Isn't the lm308 supposed to be hard to find? Why do jameco, guitar pcb, banzai and a load of other sites have lm308s listed in stock now? Are these back in production or are they fakes?

Can't speak for the rest but GPCB one's are definitely not fake I've bought about 12 as well as 40 through hole J201s and a few 2N5457s, 1N34As, 7660S and many, many matched quad sets from Barry so you're safe to buy them

GuitarPCB once got me with their "Verified genuine 2N5457 JFETS!" marketing.

I was expecting NOS Fairchilds for the price he was charging, but they turned out to be Central Semicondictors that Mouser was selling at 1/4 the price.

I guess he technically didn't lie, but always be skeptical of marketing speak when it's used to justify price for a part.

There must be something in current production that says LM308 on top, whether it is authentic to the originals or just something else relabelled, who knows. A few of the cheap Chinese rat clones use an “LM308” and the Mooer black secret (also rat clone) uses an SMD “LM308”. Never seen an SMD one until someone posted the guts of that pedal.

Earthquaker has also made I think like 4000 of the Life pedals with an “LM308”.

I would assume if authentic old stock was available easily in those numbers, proco would probably be selling a reissue with LM308.

Well I've ordered a couple from silicon ark in the UK. Does anyone know how I could check a lm308 to know if it's legit?. I vaguely remember reading something on madbean a long time ago.

The easy way apparently is with an Ohm meter AKA Multi Meter, set it to Ohm measurement.
Leg 5 is disconnected from the Op Amp completely, so measure the reading from leg one and five together of it reads nothing it's real.
Than again this holds true with the LM308 substitute, the OD07DP that on paper is close enough for Rock-N-Roll.
I just bought a half Dozen salvaged NSC metal can LM308's. lm308_1.jpg
