Jackson Audio is relaunching Fulltone

How many versions did Fooltone make of the FOOLDRIVE before it finally had a Boost that worked seperately from the drive circuit.
I have a OCD that I got dirt cheap & It's somewhere in the back of my Cabinet gatherin' Dust
If their so Great, why is there like 4 versions of pedals he released????

There are at least seven versions of the OCD. Maybe eight. I don't know if they are great but he certainly sold all of them.

That is the only issue I had with any of his products. So many versions with not so subtle changes in some cases. At least put it the changes on dip switches.

That said, he was one of the OG boutique guys, and definitely changed the market to where the small guys outsell the Boss and MXR out there. But yea, like many innovators, he has his quirks and polarizing characteristics.

I personally never dealt with him so I can’t speak to his people/customer service skills. I’d hope to think a lot of the negative was overblown , but again, with no personal experience I can’t say.

As for the politically driven views on the guy, I refuse to even acknowledge discussion on that personally as this is one place in my life that I can get away from the bitterness and ugliness around politics and geek out on cool noisemakers for my geetars!

He put the “Boooooooo!” in boutique…

I got big into pedals late, until a few years ago all I had was a muff, an old dod chorus and a wah so never paid much attention to Fulltone until he was already maligned by the masses in all the forums and groups I saw.

It seemed almost like a mob mentality and I see lots of references to what a horrible person he was from customer service to etc.

The only thing I’ve seen is his politics that might put him at odds. Never seen an example other than his 2020 comments that make him such a boogie man.

There were a bunch of good albums released in 1999. NIN The Fragile, Midnite Vultures by Beck, RAMT's the Battle of Los Angeles, Mule Variations by Tom Waits, the third Foo Fighters album, Dre 2001, etc. And that's just main stream stuff.

Fulltone deserves some serious respect for his contributions to the pedal business, not least of which is the now common 3PDT. Imagine having to choose between true bypass and no LED, some less than ideal form of bypass and an LED, or a FET-based LED switch and DPDT bypass—that's how it used to be. Now even cheap Chinese knockoff pedals use 3PDTs.

As to 1999, there were definitely some great releases on the heavier side of things that came out that year. Off the top of my head, here are a few favorites:

Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory

Spirit Caravan - Jug Fulla Sun

Sleep - Jerusalem*

*I personally prefer the longer 2012 Southern Lord version, but the original 1999 version is still an absolute banger.

If I remember correctly 1.4/.5/.6 are all very similar other than .4 having the 34a added. It’s not a pedal I really use much but i keep one around. I actually have to make another one cause I ended up trading off the last one I made as part of a trade for a cab. Lol

I remember when OCD was the answer to every question on tgp, kind of like the timmy is now. My impression is that I like what it does when stacked with other drives but not really great on its own. Not bad, just kind of bland. Which, come to think of it, is kind of like the timmy.

ugh too true. Also, 1999 is the year I was born, and it’s interesting the only year from 1948 when the LP format was first introduced, all the way to present times, where I can’t think of a single album I like released in that year.

Edit: actually I remembered there’s one, *maybe* two I like— the Soft Bulletin by the Flaming Lips, and I’m only sorta middle of the road on Wilco’s Summerteeth (I like Wilco, but I think that album is mostly pretty boring).
What! How about Liquid Skin, by Gomez? They should be right up your alley, I’d think.

Oh My Goodness. Gomez. I had only heard the song “78 stone wobble” maybe twice on MuchMusic, and it got stuck in my head. I rode my bike to the local CD shop and asked for the album “Bring it On” they ordered it in. Probably cost $25!!! (Huge for a cd back then) A week or two later, I had it on the stereo at a party. Er’body in the living room grooved to it. That was 1998. I was 17. So not a 1999 story. But…

The 2003 release of Dopesmoker on Tee Pee records is the ultimate IMO, still have my copy, just wishing I'd been nicer to my records 20 years ago.

Edit: My 2 favorite albums from Japanese freak-folk-psychedelic band Ghost came out in 99 - Snuffbox Immanence and Tune In, Turn On, Free Tibet

I got to see Gomez open for CAKE ages ago at Royce Hall. They put on a really great show.
I’ve been able to see Gomez many times over the years, and honestly think they used to put on a better show than ANY other band I’ve seen. (And, in my 70s, I’ve gotten to see many many greats.) My first Gomez concert was a 3 night stand at Fillmore West, I went for just 1 night with friends that were rabid Gomez fans. No song repeats over 3 LONG concerts. They used to not take breaks; with three “leads” they would each do a few solo songs while the rest of the band took a break—and those solos were often highlights.

Up until about 10 years ago, they’d tour with a 6th member, who would either double on percussion or synths. Since then, unfortunately, they use pre-recorded for those parts. I think my most favorite show was just Ian, Ben and Tom, almost fully acoustic, in a small SF hall. It was the final night of a world tour, and they were exhausted and pretty loopy. The tensions that had been growing between Ian and Ben were absent that night.

Is that a proven fact? Tbh I really don't think he would have been the only one to figure it out. Also the trend nowadays goes towards relay based switches and some brands even start to incorporate JFET flip flop switching again due to the better durability and noise free switching. As cool as 3PDT true bypass switching is for easy implementation, it isn't industry standard anymore.

I have a CD of hypnotic underworld but haven't checked out any of their other material. I'll have to give these a listen later
