LM78L05 vs L78L05 GO!

Is there any appreciable difference in these two? Been trying to read the datasheets, but my eyes just keep glazing over.

Assuming you don't mean the LM7805 (which is in a TO-220 package with opposite pinouts and increased output current rating), the LM78L05 and L78L05 devices should be interchangeable as both have 100mA output ratings. Can you link the specific datasheets? There can be variation from part to part. As @fig mentioned, the devices may have opposite pinouts.

These seem to have the same pinout:

• LM78L05 (TI)
• L78L05 (STMicroelectronics)

Yeah, I had seen elsewhere ab the difference between 78L05 vs 7805, but not LM vs plain L. The pinouts were the same both from the datasheets I pulled from the web and from the ones attached in Mouser. I will try and link the datasheets

Those appear to be functionally equivalent and have the same pinout.

Coming back around on this one... I think the pinouts between the LM78L05 and the L78L05 are reversed - while the pin numbers do the same thing, it appears as if the pin order is reversed between the two:



So if I wanted to use an LM78L05 in place of an L78L05 I'd have to reverse it relative to the silkscreen...

Yep, L78L05 and LM78L05 have the same pinout.

The one that is different is the L7805.

I never trust regulator pinouts I used to always test them on the breadboard before whacking them onto a pcb now I use my DCA75

Way back when I first started I got some regulators in the same package type from different suppliers with the input and outputs reversed

I believe one of the suppliers was Cheech or Chong and you know what they say.....

Yeah - I just ended up testing the LM's I had vs. the L's I had... both pined out the same... of course, I don't think my LM was a TI, so it could be different... *wheeeee*
