Major Guitar Drools

What better place to share than here right?
I have been having a major drool fest over wanting to get a new guitar, specifically a Jazzmaster.
Fighting the urge to buy one without playing it first.

I also read that Fender is planning a price increase this spring 2021, because of the tremendous and record selling year they had in 2020, the demand has skyrocketed due to most of the world being on lockdown.

I’m selling a custom USA-built Black 35 JM (Black 35 makes guitars for Bad Religion, My Chemical Romance, Against Me, etc) for pretty cheap if you’re interested.

Nice guitar!

I've got a Classic Player JM in Sunburst. It's a pretty sweet guitar, I threw a mastery bridge on there too because I can't seem to leave anything I own stock

I keep hearing about the mastery bridge. Is it needed because of the strings bouncing out of the grooves for heavy hitting players or does it change the tone of the guitar?

A little bit of both. As a hard hitter, I definitely wanted to get it both for the tuning stability it added (which was huge, because the stock TOM makes no sense for a trem system, and because I would knock strings off the groove.

I also feel it adds a little bit of sustain, but it also gives a little extra...chimeyness? Which is why you'll see some people like to put a dampener on there (JHS show has one on their Bilt that has a mastery)

Definitely worth changing the stock bridge of a jazzmaster. When it comes to JM, there's such a cult over them that pushes the price up; my only real take away has been that, whatever you buy, you can put some Lollar JM pickups in there and you'll be happy as a clam.
I really want to build/buy a nice tele. My roomate put an aluminum neck on his recently with some p90 humbuckers, and the thing freakin screams, especially with some of my pedals in front!

I did a warmoth JM that i love, mastery bridge is a worthwhile investment. It is really chimey but that is what I wanted.

Wow that's beautiful.... if I didn't have two Jazzmasters.....hmmm..

Yeah, I tend to agree. I have a Staytrem on one (which you can't get in the US anymore) and the new FENDER (not the Mustang one) that's basically a Staytrem clone https://darrenriley.com/store/fender-american-pro-jaguar-jazzmaster-bridge-7709942000/
Mastrey bridges are cool too... beautiful work

I’ve been wanting to pull the trigger on a Squier Classic Vibe...I don’t need the adult version. I never even thought about a Jazzmaster, and then I caught the bug (no, not THAT one) last summer. I figured it’s completely unlike anything I have now, and I appreciate the tonal varieties...

After getting used to the JM offset hand position my strat feels small

Pulled the trigger. My first guitar purchase since 2001. Wtf, time goes so fast...

She's a beaut, Clark!

I don't own any electric guitars (only basses) but if I were to buy one it'd be a Jazzmaster. I'm an Elvis Costello nut and have always wanted a walnut Jazzmaster. One of these days I might be able to justify it!

I'm stoked for your new purchase. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!

Gorgeous!

What do you think you'll have to do to her? I have a Bass VI, and my first electric was a Mustang - I've had to twiddle a decent amount.
I am hoping nothing. But we will see. I sadly haven’t had time to plug it in yet. I’m sitting here just waiting for 5pm. Lol.

So WTF Fender. Finally got around to plugging this bad boy in only to hear a totally shit sounding neck pickup. Did some trouble shooting and found the lugs on the Neck tone pot were stuck together, grounding out the pickup. I unstuck the lugs and now this baby sounds outstanding but can you imagine if someone bought this and didn't know a thing or two about a thing or two?

Did you buy from a bricks & mortar shop? That looks like the sort of thing which might happen in a store. I should know - I used to work in one! Hard to see how that escaped QC otherwise. Fender is usually pretty good at QC. It does sour the initial experience though.

Fender look after Gretsch's QC these days and they just get better and better. I'm a Gretsch nerd and have bought a few over the past 30 years. The new ones are as good as they have ever been. My recent '59 VS Duo Jet is incredible, and that's largely thanks to Fender.

It’s actually my first purchase with Sweetwater, got a good deal on it. I had to let it air out for a few days due to heavy paint fumes so I know it was not out on display or even touched except by their tech for the 55point check up. I’m a long time fan of Fender so I’m not mad, shit happens I get it. I’m more disappointed with Sweetwater for not noticing it. And now that I’ve fixed it the sound is unbelievable. I wish I had picked one of these up years ago.

I had a Gretsch Stephen Stills White Falcon reissue, I miss it badly

I used to think that my Gretsch 6120 SSLVO was the best guitar I had played until I got the Jet. I've had a few recent Jets but the '59 VS is just a level above - The sound is incredible. A good Gretsch is a beautiful thing. The thing I particularly like is that they have a big sound and still cut through a mix. And they cut through while still sounding big.

A Stephen Stills Falcon would be a wonderful thing. They are a great looking guitar.
