Median Compressor Questions

The build doc has notes about the parameters for the transistors. Are the 2N5457 ones sold at PedalPCB fit those parameters?

And D1 & D2 are BAT43 which Tayda is currently out of. Are there other diodes that would be an acceptable substitute?

I can always use more 2N5457, so I'd just get the PPCB ones and try them out, measure them and use the ones that most closely match the parameters set in the build doc.

Have you got any Bat42?

Emailed Tayda, they said a restock in around 2weeks.
oh great thanks! They very well might have them then by the time I am ready to order then. I have saved carts for 4 PedalPCB builds. But I’m also out of work so I don’t know when I will actually order. But by then they might be out of something else in my carts lol.

I just build for myself and mostly get parts as needed. How many of the 2N5457 would you get to get a matching pair?

I'm mainly building for myself and occasionally gift a pedal to a friend.

We all have our preferences in how to go about this hobby, though; mine is to have a large stash though I'm constantly finding things I don't have and want/need for a build. JFETs for instance...

There are dozens upon dozens of builds that I'd like to eventually get to that could take a 2N5457.
For example: Boosts that call for a J113 or MPF102 can be kajiggered to accept a 2N5457, which will give a little more gain.
IIRC, subbing out the J201 with a 2N5457 will reduce gain a little and possibly smooth out some dirt circuits for bass.

There are many resources online at DIYSB, FSB, Muff-Wiggler, MBP-Forum and elsewhere, but our cozy home right here is a great place to start with Temol's thread:

To answer your question:
I'd get a baker's dozen, hopefully that would do it. With SMD equivalents mounted to adapter boards for through-hole, you're even more likely to get a good match as SMD stuff, from what I've read, is more consistent —

... I order matched sets from GuitarPCB, Aion and Lectric-FX!

I swear I'll do it again — yes, even though I have a JFET-Matcher PCB — yeah, for phasers and anything else that needs matching.

and... YOU CAN'T STOP ME!!!

Thank you for all of that!
