On the muriodea board, is the anode or cathode supposed to go in this square?

Which part are you asking about? In any case I would trust the screen printing.

actually if I wasn’t sure I’d grab my multimeter, set it for connectivity, and see which pad connects where following the schematic (or you may be able to see the traces visibly).

The anode goes in the pad marked "A" (the round one).

Check out this thread -- it clarifies some of the confusion with older boards. Current boards look to have consistency with the screen printing. I was briefly a member of the reverse LED club before checking out the thread above

Thanks for the replies. I should have referenced I am curious about the 470p capacitor below the chip. The screen printing references positive but the PCB is the square cathode hole.

That's a 470nano or .47uf not pico and square hole is anode
