My next Telecaster....a pictorial. 4-27-23 "Final" update

Looks good, wish you did this when I converted my old butterscotch affinity. Your workmanship is 10x better than mine. I would have lifted some of your ideas ;)


Wound my own pickups, made it a string through, didn't drill it straight.

Did you paint it? That looks really good!

Winding your pickups is pretty slick, I've never got into that....(yet:)) do you have a winding jig?
 
This came out great, very tasteful relic! Even though the body wasn't perfect it looks like you made it work out. How's the weight on it? I think I'm backwards from most people on this, but I prefer the body to have a bit of weight, just feels nicer to me.

I've used it on both now and it works very well.

This body came in at around 4 1/2 pounds, so average. It's not super light not super heavy.
 
Incredible! Looks brilliant. Seems like you were able to handle all the bumps along the way in stride.

I hadn’t heard of BloomDoom before. Their stuff looks fantastic. Do you have any experience with them?
 
Well I posted about this in the "Mailbox" thread yesterday.

I decided to re-build the Tele with the new body. Wow, what a difference, everything fit!!

Nice tight neck pocket, no shims needed.
The control cavity hole was cut straight and not cattywampus
The string through holes were not drilled at an angle making it damn hear impossible to change strings
The jack hole did not need reaming to get the cup to fit.
And of course, it's a nitrocellulose finish.

So out of the 4 GFS bodies I've used so far, 2 were spot on, GREAT bodies. 1 was "okay" and 1 was crap.
That's not a super great batting average. What I've noticed is that they must source from a number of different vendors.
The two poplar bodies with the Filtertron routes were really quite a lot better than the "vintage style" Tele and Strat bodies in just about every regard.

Anyway, it was a fun experiment, despite the cursing in Orcish, Entish and Elvish during the assembly.

But now I have an absolutely killer Tele that I can without a flinch say plays better than my Nash for a fraction of the price.

I "think" this project is finally finished.....but then....you never know...... :ROFLMAO:

That looks excellent. I was checking the mjt eBay page daily about 2 years ago but never quite found what I wanted and eventually gave up in favor of a different plan

I've really enjoyed watching this build come together. My first build was a tele that I did the body myself and I fiddled around with a 4 way switch and over time decided that not only would I not use the series pickup setup. I'd gone to enough trouble to make the guitar look like a blackguard that putting in anything but a stock switch felt a bit weird.

Some of the auctions go pretty high, more than I care to spend, but some of then sell in the mid-200's. It's a matter of checking frequently to see what gets posted. There was a lovely light aged Tele body in Shoreline Gold that really got my attention. I think I would up bidding $270 but $275 won it........bastards....... :ROFLMAO:
