What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I've been wanting to ham it up for years....decades?...sure let's roll with that...I recall there being an operator on the forum...at least their name seemed to be a callsign. How ya been?
Good!

Busy with building (friends') cars, so not much pedal-building getting done.

I got into CBs back when they were the rage because I couldn't afford a ham radio (couldn't afford the CB, it was a gift from the parental units).
Now I hear you don't even need to know morse-code to get your ham-radio license! 🧐

Okay okay... I'll stop spamming the thread, or should I say HAMming the thread. I've got more pics of the base, and the box etc, if anybody has interest, just PM me. This quick dive may result in a search for vintage tube-based ham-radios, the Speed X key is too nice to be stomped on...

I'm one of those posers that got their license after they dropped the code requirement, but I see it as a good thing - people get into it first, realise how fun it is, then get bitten by the bug to learn code! I started learning a couple years ago and stopped, but I really should get back to it. The idea of being able to work the world with 5W, a wire and a key is very romantic.

Growing up, most vacations occurred on the Oregon coast not far from the devil's punchbowl so I was in for this powder drop before I even saw the pics. It's always hard to photograph these because they're so "alive" in the sunlight. It's almost too pretty. I'll probably put a curds and whey in this with no graphics or labels. No need to gild the lily or whatever. Bought a BB also.

Looks a lot like "prismatic cosmos" from Prismatic Powders. It's become one of the most commonly requested finishes I do on special runs. Hard to really capture it accurately but it is absurdly cool when the light hits it.

Anyone getting sick of my "Tele-scapades" yet?.... :ROFLMAO:

So this pretty much an unplanned purchase. When I was putting together my Candy Apple Red 60's style Tele I got pretty disgusted at one point with the out of spec neck pocket and was seriously considering scrapping that body and starting over. I was browsing Ebay and looking at the MJT (Mark Jenny) nitrocellulose finished bodies and this one caught my eye. (I've been wanting a Seafoam Green tele for many years to match the color of the hull of my flats skiff, which is Seafoam green). I wasn't really serious about buying it but I threw what I thought was a pretty low ball bid on it........and won the auction! I got this for a bit over $200. With tax and shipping it came out to ~$240.

Mark uses mostly USACG bodies and finishes them in nitro and does all the aging. I'm not a big fan of heavily relic'd bodies as most of them look ridiculously fake to me. But lightly aged really floats my "boat". (Ha see what I did there?:))

So I'm not really sure what to do with this body. I'm leaning towards re-building Red tele with this body. Although right now that Tele is playing perfectly, I still have a sour taste from the experience. And I'm not completely happy with my "aging" of the finish. It was a bit of an experiment to begin with to see if I could convincingly age a polyurethane body. I might wind up using that body with the extra neck I have to test pickups.

Oh, here's a picture of my boat the day I brought it home. (It's a bit dirtier than that now hahaha)

Oh man, your tele-scapades have been making want to build almost exactly this. Looking forward to what you come up with!
