NE555D SMD Orientation

I'm working on the PedalPCB Tone Generator and it's my first real foray into SMD components outside of the odd few repairs I have done in the past.

Everything seems to be going fairly well but the silk screen shows the orientation of a PDIP-8 type of chip and I can't figure out where PIN1 is on my SMD NE555D chip in the SOIC-8 format (see attached).



I did some reading and learned that the Pin1 side is normally more bevelled but I can't seem to see a difference. Would the line on my SOIC-8 component represent the cutout end of a PDIP-8 or the opposite end?

Thanks everyone. That was my assumption (…and I THOUGHT I perceived more of a bevel on that edge) but I wanted to make sure before soldering.

BTW, for those who were thinking it, I DID search and read datasheets but none that I found were any help…perhaps I didn’t search hard enough?

Sometimes there is a small indentation at pin 1, or a stripe.
