PedalPCB Byrdhouse Compressor

It depends what job you want it to do. A compressor after gain stages can act a bit like a saturating tube amp which can be nice. Put it in front instead and you get increased sustain and possibly a different character out of the drive. I use it after envelope filter to tame the peaks.

Usually early but I'm thinking about putting mine closer the end of my chain, I never squash it wherever I put it but taking the edge off of the peaks of my envelopes may be necessary. Luckily I don't use a vintage fuzz face/wah at the beginning so it can kind of go anywhere on my rig. I have a triangle of preferences that don't align. I prefer envelope before comp, dirt before envelope but don't love comp after dirt. Womp womp.
