F**k no. My buddy had an absolutely crazy looking Whale PRS but would never play it for fear of scratching it. When I was a kid I owned a handmade Yamaha classical that I worked for years to buy. It was absolutely superb but I never played it for the same reason. Once I got on the road and beat a few guitars to death I've decided that if it can't be scratched I don't want anything to do with it. Luckily I'm too broke to afford anything too expensive but all my cheap mutts are battle scarred.

It's like owning a hammer that you don't want to hit anything with in case you scratch it.

I managed to keep any real significant dings off my main bass until last week when I dropped it on our asphalt driveway 🤣🤣🤣

As long as I don't get any divots on the back of the neck it doesn't bother me much. I just wish that poly finishes chipped in a more aesthetically pleasing way, I guess.

Fresh wounds suck but eventually you're going to chuckle every time you see the road rash. The 5 string my friend made was bashed into the ceiling by our drummer when he was first seeing it. Goes to play it and harms it immediately. I guess my face didn't look amused because he gingerly set it down and said "well, look at the time....... super sorry." and then he bounced.

Damn, now that I think of it, I accidently set one leg of my electric upright stand on another drummer's stage rug at a bar gig. When he went to adjust his set up my bass took a dive and nailed the edge of a table hard. He was mortified. Giant dent on the side of the neck, in the ebony as well. Didn't go out of tune though.

Drummer's tryna kill my babies man....

It's a drummer conspiracy. And don't even get started on their cymbals flying out of nowhere in to headstocks on stage!

Are those GHS Precision flats with the purple silks? If so, how do you like them?

As for the body, just go to a nail polish shop, they'll fix you right up

That sounds right. It's been a long time. I'm kind of an old dead string guy. I wasn't impressed at first but now that they're like 8 years in they're great. Only the 2nd set I've put on it since 1999 so I don't have a ton of comparison info. I like them more than the rotosounds I bought initially but again... my memory of those is when they were geriatric and I only changed them out of boredom. The rotos were fine. My pbass sees a lot more use and string turnaround. Current set is medium d'addario chrome flats and I'm pretty happy there.

I had the same medium Chromes on this bass for about a decade, and for some reason this past two years or so I've been trying new ones out. I tried the Jameson bridge cables, Rotos, and am now on to TI flats, which I've had on the longest at nearly a year now. I'm not sure if I am in love with them though and am still sniffing around a bit.

I can get real picky about certain things but I’ve never played a bad set of flats. Been curious about tape but my bass sounds too good to motivate that kind of purchase. Expendable money is always getting munched by tayda/mouser orders now.

I rarely play out and I baby my instruments.
I just got a relic bass for the peace of mind. Gig material right there.

You went from the Jamersons to TI noodles? I want tot put the Jamersons on one of my P basses but I keep hearing stories of necks bent beyond repair. How were they?
I'm considering the 49-109 Labellas which are slightly smaller but have a thinner core.
