This may be a dumb question....

so I understand the difference between A B and C pots, but what decides the value of individual pots (example: A100k or A50k) in circuits?

what would happen if you were to use a B1M in place of a B10k?

Not a dumb question at all.

What decides the value? Depends on what the pot is hooked up to and what it's hooked up as — voltage divider or variable resistor... depends on what you need it to do, too.
