Questions about a couple parts for two builds

I'm putting a couple carts together to build the procrastinator and the special overdrive and my questions are
procrastinator - what the heck is a "5v6" diode and where can I find one?
&
special overdrive - what kind of spdt switch do I need? on/on? on/off/on? etc

Thank you for tolerating my lack of knowledge and experience as always.

Just discovering this thread. How do you know whether to use a 1W (1N4734) vs 1/2W (1N5232B).
