RAT - Saved enclosure, circuit rebuild on vero

Pots on my Rat were super scratchy and/or broke. Instead of having to source those thru PCB pots with the long shaft and new knobs, I decided to rebuild the whole circuit on stripboard and put it back in the enclosure.

NOS Motorola LM308AH and NOS Fairchild 2n5458 JFET.
Also put a regular DC jack in.

Didn't plan for the LED parts on board before I cut it. Whoops. The enclosure is lined with plastic so I'm not worried about it shorting on the box, just kind of ugly.

Nice job! It doesn't have to be pretty inside to work.

I think that board is technically "perf" and not "vero," but who cares? Ya built it from scratch and used an opamp older than half the guys on this forum. Ya might wanna put some heatshrink on the LED leads.

It's strip board (with holes plated on both sides). I think that's "vero"?

Was thinking the same but had none on hand. The whole interior of enclosure is plastic and the RAT sticker over the LED hole holds it in place nicely :)

nice! i'm actually trying to do a similar thing with an old RAT enclosure of mine. my goal was to fit the "informant" PCB in there, but its going to be a bit of a production. might work, might not. anyway, this looks great, if nothing else i'll just make my own like you did!

Thanks! Really want to try an Informant. I have a Muroidea PCB poking around that I almost threw in the box instead. Looks like I have an excuse to make another RAT :)

That looks sharp!

How many folks out there are rebuilding Rats?
I've thought about making some retrofit PCBs for the 'Muff.... maybe the Rat should join the party.

I've looked at that light box before but wasn't sure if it'd be a good one... looks like it'd be more than adequate.

its looking more like this informant isn't going to fit into the RAT enclosure after all, so i'd be stoked for a nice repro pcb that would fit nicely. count me in.

"Nice job! It doesn't have to be pretty inside to work." Whaaaat?? Neat work always gets extra mojo tonal points, everyone knows that.

FWIW I think this job is excellent. And I think it's funny - some of you guys take better photos of pedals than I do. My day job is photography - I've been a professional photographer for 25 years. But I shoot my pedals in my lounge room on the coffee table with my iPhone.
