"Retail" Clones???

I might have to get that Centavo, just for the box. Even the enklonesure boxes directly from China are getting up there in price.

I'd strip it of the WA graphics and then stick a... I don't know, probably some sort of Warble Device — whatever I can think of that's as far away from a Klon as possible. Maybe a VHS, use push-pull switch pots so I can keep the stock knob config.

For the new and improved graphic... hmmm something that takes parody to the limit, not sure what. A jellyfish attack?

HM2 with everything maxed and the knobs glued on without actually being able to turn them... kinda like a Propolis (Bumble Buzz) on mega-hulk-steroids...

Hide a MIKU inside... Damn! can't believe how much a Miku costs now. I was waiting for them to be in the discount-can't-sell-em-below-cost bin, but they never made it there.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I know, I've talked about doing the Klone-that-isn't-a-klone thing before. Someday, when enklonesures come down in price and I find the right circuit to stick inside.

Just wire up a direct link from the input to output. Have a switch that just turns on the led and nothing else. It'll be the most transparent drive ever.

Also maybe just throw a lot of mojo parts in the enclosure when you put the back on but don't connect them to anything. Just let them float around to see if they spontaneously connect themselves up in some unique fashion.

How long until we find a commercial operator (not a small one-man place) just ripping off clones with PPCB boards?

Ceriatone has been milking it for a few years now even with the non Switchcraft Jacks & reversed wire fly leads!
This Centavo is selling for a price, I just saw the Gut shot & that crap Footswitch & wannabe Diodes is not a good start!!!
This has a Mod switch on the back for the ''Jeff Beck'' mod, whatever that is!???
I wont be buying it.
At the end of the day it's no different to Gibson & Fender knockoffs & they are still in Business?

Huh, it's a bit weird to see this many folks unfamiliar with Warm Audio but I guess we all make our own internets.

They're an EXTREMELY popular manufacturer of affordable versions of extremely high-end studio equipment - their stuff is near-ubiquitous in project studios, and generally reviews favourably (85% of the sound for 25% of the price etc). Their neve channels/pultecs/etc are 'around.'

The pedal thing seems like a weird side-hustle for a company that's doing extremely well in another area and I would imagine that it's just a pet project for them. Part of their deal is copying the aesthetics/panel layouts/interface of the original item, so it is very much in keeping with the rest of their products to make a decent facsimile of the extremely expensive original down to the case and or knobs.
You know, now that you mention it, I HAVE heard of them before, different context, maybe that's why it didn't register. As I recall they made some decent Neuman condenser mic clones right?

This is it....

I remember looking at these at one point. They've kinda taken the same space that the Oktave's did at one point when they were cheap.

Or maybe those are just BAT41's.....still my favorite clipper in a Klone......
Could be. I've only ever seen those blue coloured BAT41s and the silicon 1n34p looks a lot like the one they used so just made an assumption. Either way it's not like any of us are going to buy one. I genuinely don't know how may Klones I've built.

The Blue BAT's are ST Micro, the Vishay BATs are red and black like a 4148 or 914.

Genuinely didn't know that. I've got some Bat41, 42 and 46 (I think) and they're all blue and black. I'd not seen any red and black until I googled them earlier.

I preferred D9b diodes to any of the Bat diodes I've tried in my Klones.

Fwiw, they sound a wee bit different to my ears. The ST Micro ones (blue) seem to saturate a little more than the Vishay of the same type. It might be a Vf thing, I've never measured or compared.

Actually... I have done this. Well, the transparent drive thing. Goop, don't forget the goop! Gotta goop at least part of the circuit...

I originally called mine the "BCA MTF" or Bass>Cable>Amp Magic Tone Fingers...

It's since been called a few other things since.

I've got both type of BATs, the blue plastic, the glass package, for the same part number — 41, 46? Can't recall which.

Yeah, just about any boutique company, well, with all the money that could be ... Just Honestly Saved !

Okay, I’ve been wanting to do this too. Put a most unKlonelike monster inside a gold box of shame. Something Daisy based probably. Three Davies and a modular patchbay with blinking lights…

I like the MIKU idea though. It’d feel like a love letter and a ransom note to the whole pedal scene in one box...

Since my last post, I've since realised I need to self-edit my posts (or at least look them over) before hitting "Post Reply" since I seem to redundantly use "since", at least since then. Does that make since seance descends cents sends sense?
I do this a lot because I'm usually posting here while hanging with my kids. Only like 15% of my attention is left for anything else when they're in the room. I'll post and then minutes later notice 4 autocrorrects that make it make zero sense.
