Riptide--Big Muff variation (AionFX build)

Finished up this Big Muff for a friend this weekend. According to the build docs it's a variation of the "Gilmour '73 Ram's Head", and I don't know exactly what that would sound like to begin with but this thing sounds pretty awesome. It's got a switch for either scooping or boosting the mids, which is a great addition to the pedal. With the mids scooped you can get some cool, almost smashing pumpkins like tones out of it. As far as the build itself went, overall it was pretty simple and straightforward. I'm still struggling with the wiring aspect of building pedals, and my biggest struggle with this one was cutting the wires just a little too short and not noticing it until I had already soldered them together. Once I got them out and put in wires that were long enough though, it worked no problem! My girlfriend painted this one as well, so all the artistic props go to her. My friend who commissioned the pedal just said "You know I'm an ocean man" for what kind of colors he wanted, and this is what she came up with.

I love the paint. I've built a bunch of pedals and I still have an issue trimming my wire too short sometimes, which stems from trying to use just enough to make it look clean and also I'm trying to not be wasteful, but also I'm cheap lol.

Yea I feel you on that. I'm still pretty new to all of this, and wiring is hands-down my least favorite part haha. Is it tedious for you as well or am I just not patient?
And thanks! My gf has been painting the last few pedals I've built, so I can't take credit for the way they look. It's been pretty awesome though, they definitely turn out looking way nicer than I could make them look on my own.

I’m a cheap ass too! The good news is that hookup wire is cheap depending on where you buy it. $12 on Amazon can get you a few dozen builds! I tend to cut the wire from the spool too long (on purpose, of course). It’s easier to shorten a wire rather the other way around.

I hate offboard wiring. It's 100x worse on vero board builds. I've been building pcbs mainly lately for that reason alone. PCB mounted pots and switches are so nice. Wiring up the stompswitch is second nature to me now, but at first it was a big hurdle for me because I didn't understand how the switch latched/unlatched.

I usually order 10 or 20 feet of solid core wire from Tayda. I think it's a ten cents per foot which seems pretty cheap compared to Tractor Supply.
