I just swapped out the transistors in my Sandspur for Soviet GT404B NPN germaniums. HFE 72 and 128. I had to switch out R3 from 1K to 33K to bias Q2 to 4.5V. Anything lower than that, the voltage was high. I saw on prior posts stating that increasing R4 would increase volume but I’ve already increased R3 so significantly to get it to bias and this reduced the volume significantly. At maxed volume it’s half as loud as my Fuzz Face and like a quarter as loud as my Big Muff (that are all in the same enclosure. Any suggestions?
