Sell it all, no really!

I wholeheartedly agree, though a special out-of-production IC which is no longer found could be the only thing holding you back. That makes a slippery road though, suddenly you have 40 pedals with "special" ICs..

The only thing stopping me is my shoddy workmanship on early pedals... I can't push that onto people! (Even though I have seen what passes for some boutique pedals..)

Actually that's true. I do still have a box with some really early builds which I just wouldn't sell. The build qualities just not good enough... probably still better than some devi ever stuff though 🤣

Those are the best pedals to sell in my opinion the ones you're not using! I know you said it before but sending them to a good home where it'll get used is what matters to me. All that hard work just for it to sit on the shelf, I think not!

You guys made it super simple. There is only really one pedal that has a harder to find part for. I count 5 that I actually want to keep, hell, maybe even 4. Everything else can be remade at any time, assuming a board is available. Now I just gotta figure out what avenue to sell them.

Shockingly I came full circle to the pedals I had in the 90s and now my board is full of basic bitch stuff that I missed but didn't realize until recently. I have stuff that I haven't plugged in since the build reports pics and testing. I won't miss them.
I ask myself all the time if I could let ones I don't really use or bond with go. I think I could do as you are thinking and pare it down to just what's actually getting used, after I took a deep breath and told myself I did my best work (for the time), which somebody will hopefully get to enjoy.

Side note:
I sure hope that Violet Rams Head is staying put as part of the EHX batch though. That demo put the Muffin PCB in my cart immediately. Well, all the EHX demos from that period added to the backlog really.

The harsh reality of the pedal game. There are only 5 pedals we really want and the rest are only novelty until we go back to those five.

If you sell them on eBay and use the money to build more, you can claim the income as 'hobby' income, which still needs to be reported to the IRS but is in a different category. My wife (rip) was the tax expert, I think it's non taxable. As I look at the IRS website my eyes glaze over, but it's something to think about, if you file taxes.

Sharing my condolensces on your loss.

Full disclosure, the pedals I'm considering selling are some of the best work I've ever done, a true labor of love. But many, if not most, sit unused and that bothers me. The thrill of the complete collection was fun while it lasted, but the hunt is over. I have a lot of stuff that's not in my wheelhouse and I'd like people to use them.
This! I enjoy building, but a lot of them I didn’t gel with, so out they went. I think that’s why I’m having fun with my current eurorack builds as I’m building more with a purpose. But hey, just ordered stuff for 2 new pedal builds this week…

If you are not playing it now, you never will. I'm also not into just having shit laying around I'll never use. I own NOTHING I don't play on a daily/weekly basis.

People should know what they like and play/keep those things. I've NEVER built something again I sold. That's insane.

Whoah!
That's a mighty exclusive opinion.

If everyone followed this logic, wouldn't music get real boring real quick?
